Davis To Play In NFLPA Collegiate Bowl
Mustang DT Joins Taylor Reed On All-Star Game Roster
Jan. 15, 2013
WASHINGTON, D.C. (NFLPA/SMU) - The NFL Players Association has announced that SMU's Aaron Davis has committed to playing in this weekend's 2013 NFLPA Collegiate Bowl. The Mustangs' Taylor Reed previously committed to the game.
The defensive tackle from Elsinore, Calif. will be one of the talented draft-eligible seniors competing in the all-star game on this Saturday, Jan. 19, at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. CT, and the game will be televised live on ESPN2. ESPNU will also air live broadcasts from practices on Thursday, Jan. 17.
Davis played in all 13 games for the Mustangs in 2012 and tallied 35 tackles on the year, including 18 solo and four for-loss. Three of the tackles came in the final game of his college career, SMU's 43-10 rout of Fresno State in the Hawaii Bowl. In the bowl game, Davis recovered a fumble and returned it 23 yards, nearly scoring a TD. Davis was part of a Mustang senior class that won three bowl games and played in a school-record four bowls.
For one week preceding the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl, participants will receive an in-depth introduction to the union - the primary resource for information on the business of football and how to succeed in the NFL and in post-football careers. Pro-football players and coaching legends will work with the game's future stars, giving them first-hand insight on what it takes to win on and off of the field. Herm Edwards and [deleted] Vermeil will serve as the head coaches for the American and National Teams. Player Ambassadors for the game include former NFL players Terrell Davis, Hank Baskett, T.J. Houshmandzadeh, Lorenzo Neal and Andre Reed.

So did I, but this is great for Spike and well-deserved. Speaking of JG, any word on where he is on the draft boards? Haven't heard much but I would think he at least is getting some looks?mrydel wrote:Pretty neat. Thought it was JG from the headline.

Great for Spike ... I'm not surprised. I think he has a much of a chance to stick at the next level as anyone from the Mustangs and better than most. He was one of the guys I was referring to in earlier post when I said we had some guys that have gotten and will get serious looks from the NFL beside the ones we always talk about. There is real interest by the NFL boys for Spike as a FB .... and I can see it.

I've also heard that both T-Reed and JG's stock is rising and the possibility of a 4th-6th round pic is not out of the question. I think JG had an invite to this game, not sure why he is not playing, but I also heard thier may be another game he may play in (which one ??).

Re: Davis To Play In NFLPA Collegiate Bowl
I wish we had played Spike against UCF in a 4 man front like we did against Fresno St. Might have ended up winning the conference if we could have also beaten Rice. Don't get me wrong, in that I like Mason's 3 man front with a lot of fast LBs in most situations these days. But when they just want to run it down your throat, its nice to have a good 4 man front.

He never gave up and was an over acheiver at SMU....he deserves all he can get> Good luck to Spike.
