I admire the "energy" that Kingsbury and his young staff will generate on the field and in recruiting. Look for TT to reemerge in a couple of years.

Not sure if KK is ready to be a head coach, but it obvious to me that our strategy is to hire coaches in FB and BB that can get kids to the next level, and use that as a focal point in recruiting for both sports, reaping the rewards from mentions when they play in the pros.

JasonB it looks to me especially at some positions the coaches are preparing players well for the NFL but doing a poor job coaching them at the college level. To have the run and shoot perform so poorly when there were three former receivers from just the past 4 years on NFL rosters with DJ supposedly the "best June has ever coached" looking to be the fourth next year but yet we are a run oriented team with no imagination and so predictable and we struggle offensively against tough defensive teams.

There is no doubt that SMU is able to sell itself as a place with connections to the pros and I think we need to keep pushing that. People can refuse to see past Tulane and Rice this year but when they put on their big boy pants they will realize that we also saw our team shut out opponents TWICE and put up over 70 on one of our most bitter rivals. And then there was the bowl game....

Don't kid yourself, we shut out an FCS team and one of the worst teams in FBS, and we hung 70 on that "bitter rival" in a stadium with about 8000 people in it. As for the connections to the pros, they haven't done much to get us any real recruits since we've been dominated in recruiting by staffs with nowhere near our pro connections.

I understand downplaying the games against the FCS team and one of the worst teams in FBS, but how does the number of people in the stadium diminish the 70 points against Houston? Would you have been more impressed with the win if the crowd had been larger?

The poster said we hung 70 on a "bitter rival", how many bitter rivalries have only 8000 people in the stands for a game? It's not like we did that to TCU. I'd have been impressed if the team we beat was actually any good.

The downplay on Houston is that most of those points came from the defense exploiting a horrible backup QB. How many INTs that game? How many for touchdowns?

That was a wonderful highlight of Mason's D but does not deflect the shockingly bad offense.

I would imagine its easier to lure coaches to Dallas or even Fort Worth than Lubbock.

TCU goes relatively young but experienced with 2 new assistant coaches with SEC/Big 12 experience including Curtis Luper who has been named a National Top 25 recruiter. Luper's son is a top recruit also signing with TCU

Got Mike Jinks from Cibolo Steele HS to be RB coach, and already paying dividends. Jordan Stocker the RB/Safety and big DL from Judson who had multiple offers from big schools probably will go with Jinks to Tech. Jinks will get all the Cibolo, Judson, etc. kids not problem, as well as most of the Madison, Smithson Valley, and other area schools he wants. This is great hire.

You strike me as one of those guys who is 100% agenda, truth being only a tool to be used here and there as needed. So lay it out for us. What do you want for SMU football? And how do we get there differently from what's being done today?

I want championships, national rankings and full stadiums for SMU football (among other things but I don't have the space for a manifesto). To get there we need to do pretty much the opposite of everything we're doing today. Staff needs to get a lot younger, recruiting needs to be emphasized 24-7-365 and our offense needs to join the 21st century. Since we're apparently content to pull a UTEP and run out the clock on our current HC (not going to do us any favors on the recruiting trail), this program won't be able to start seriously moving forward until the winter of 2014 and that's assuming the right hire gets made.
