I like it, the three bowl rings have a uniquely different look and design to them ... which is nice. I'm not sure why it says 2013 ... unless.
1) Its a mistake on this mock-up and the final product will be corrected
2) The BBVA bowl wall played and won in 2012 ... so they did not want two rings with the same year ... I guess they can rationalize that its the 2012-2013 seasons with bowls spilling over to the new year. I don't believe the BBVA rings say 2011.
3) OR ... I have no idea.

Bowl ring should reflect the actual year in which that bowl game was played. Does that make sense? 
We have yet to play a game in 2013 - heck, deepellumfrog can't even get a schedule.

Perhaps it is just documenting when the ring was made. Sort of like an artist signing and dating his work of art. 
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
