2013 Recruiting class
I haven't kept up with recruiting lately, but last I remember we had 9 rivals 3 star commitments/signees and the final tally shows 8. Who is the 3 star that did not sign?

OLM Freddie Johnson and LB Roderick Moore then they added 2012 greyshirt Ty Law back in for 8

Thanks Stallion, I appreciate the info. I guess it is Freddie Johnson since Roderick Moore is listed as a 2 Star. I don't see either of them as having signed with anyone else.Stallion wrote:OLM Freddie Johnson and LB Roderick Moore then they added 2012 greyshirt Ty Law back in for 8

Re: 2013 Recruiting class
We need eight 5.7 types at this stage. This class is disappointing.

Re: 2013 Recruiting class
Yesterday, on my flight from Dallas, I was fortunate to sit next to a current SMU cheerleader. She was full of spirit and pride. She loved going to SMU football games. But it bothered me that she knew more about how Old Miss' recruiting was going than SMU's! She knew nothing of the recruits at SMU!
She did think it was a great improvement that most students that attend the football game at least stayed until halftime now days.
This poor young lady has no idea how wonderful football at SMU and how much students enjoyed it. She is, alas, one of those lost generations that losing for two plus decades has produced.
How the Hades can we recruit when our own students are apathetic and unenthused about football? Recruits can sense it a mile away.

Re: 2013 Recruiting class
Well at least we are pretty consistent in our recruiting this year. ESPN has our class ranked 71, Scout has us at 69, and Rivals has us at 67. Top 75 in all we do

Re: 2013 Recruiting class
For a half dozen years or so Boise State was a consistent top 75 and look what they accomplished during that time period.
Re: 2013 Recruiting class
And who else has done that? I believe we could name many schools that are a consistent top 75 that have not accomplished much. The exception to the rule is not the rule. Also, they only play one or two really big games per year which is the complaint many have about Boise. They would not have survived in any BCS conference. Look at what happened to Utah. But at least Boise beat some ranked BCS teams which SMU has not. Even June admitted that he has got to do better to compete week in and week out in the BE. I just wish he would have started last year.panhandle_pony wrote:For a half dozen years or so Boise State was a consistent top 75 and look what they accomplished during that time period.

Re: 2013 Recruiting class
Point well taken Rebel, but they did it consistenly in of all places Boise, Idaho - not even close to our league. Also, I would point out Hawaii going to the Sugar Bowl, TCU pre-Rose Bowl and probably a few others if I took the time to investigate. My point is it can be done with the right coaches and players that fit the system. Like Jones or not, he has accomplished a minor miracle compared to the prior 22 years before his arrival.

Re: 2013 Recruiting class
I don't follow Boise St recruiting or admission standards at all-but I've always thought there are probasbly parts of the Country where recruiting services really aren't very good. In Texas, California and the South there are literally hundreds of camps, satelite camps, clinics etc.-were comparative analysis can be made. But I doubt a Mountain area recruiting sevice can realistically comparatively analyze players to other regions as well. All they got is video which shows just the highlites

Re: 2013 Recruiting class
But most of Boise recruits come from California and other areas where one would assume the rating services are up to speed.
Re: 2013 Recruiting class
The other 3 star that didn't sign looks to be Jarvis Baxter.
Re: 2013 Recruiting class
To be honest Boise, as someone said earlier in the year, can get players SMU can not get due to their low academic standards. So can TCU and Hawaii. This class would be fine for CUSA and would get us to more Hawaii Bowls but we are going to a better conference than CUSA, WAC or the MWC. Boise could pretty much breeze through their conference. We are going to have to bring it each week in the Big East which is where depth comes into the picture. Depth that we keep being a 1 and a half recruiting classes away from having. The coach admitted yesterday that SMU is not up to par in recruiting for the Big East and must do better.

Re: 2013 Recruiting class
See, I just don't understand why he'd say that we are in the bottom of the BE talent-wise. We got most of the recruits he offered! He's the one making the evaluations! Doesn't this amount to saying "I identified early and got the lack-luster talent I wanted." Huh? It's not like he indentified and offered BE worthy talent that got away (like last year)...he wanted these players! Why not say "these recruiting services don't mean sh*t, these guys are going to shock you with talent." At least that'd seem consistent.
