U and NCAA
I a little surprised that the story of the U and the botched NCAA investigation has not had more traction on this board. The head of the NCAA enforcement division has been fired. Yet the NCAA still claims there is evidence of a lack of institutional control. Funny, one could make the same claim about the NCAA lacking institutional control. Shaking my head.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

Re: U and NCAA
I'm sure there is more legal complexity to all this than I could ever hope to understand. But seeing how this involved the NCAA, the most fraudulent organization outside the US government, one has to ask oneself a question. Does it matter? The NCAA will take care of those it always takes care of while destroying those that must be destroyed to protect the Big Boys.
Yes I am cynical. Yes I have no faith in the NCAA or anything related to the NCAA. And I know very learned legal minds that frequent this board will have very specific case law to support the legitimacy of the NCAA. However, that doesn't negate that I feel the NCAA is a fraudulent and corrupt organization. And I feel that the NCAA has gone beyond perfecting and entered a realm of fourth dimensional ecstasy when it comes to arbitrary and capricious decisions.
So there is not going to be much discussion generated because one expects no less from the NCAA to have such blatant duplicity on full display.

Ponyte,
when you have no authority overseeing you, ie NCAA, that is a free pass to do as you please. As you noted, please see US Government as example number one.

I wonder if this isn't the beginning of the end for the NCAA- they come out of this actually looking worse than the program they're punishing.

The NCAA is doomed.
When we received the Death Penalty...Alumni, Students, Trustees, Professors, Media, etc...all roundly criticised us. The NCAA was the good guy just trying to enforce the rules. Right?
Today. Nobody is outraged by any rule breaking by an athlete or school. We yawn and say "that's just how it is." That is a sea change in the NCAA's authority. Moral high ground was their big stick.
Further, the NCAA has eroded its own credibility and has no friends. They did that to themselves.
I documented how they broke their own rules in our case...nobody cares. They broke their rules in the Miami case...threw their enforcement VP under the bus...and still claim Miami lacks "institutional control"...nobody cares.
Look at the landscape...big money is preparing the ground to eliminate the NCAA.
- BCS is owned by ESPN...the CFA back in the 80's had no financial backing.
- NCAA has no moral authority anymore.
- Academic restrictions in 2015 cannot be accepted by the Big Time programs.
- Court cases on compensation for "likenesses" and even outright payments are proceeding.
- Penn State showed the NCAA Executive Committee can do anything it wants...no rules for them.
- Conference realignment occurring without NCAA influence or control.
- Money...has gotten so huge the NCAA has become a problem to be eliminated...and will be. etc, etc..
