For whatever it is worth, I don't see him listed on the roster anymore: http://www.smumustangs.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/smu-m-footbl-mtt.html. That said, I also can't find any information about him out there either.

I heard from players and coaches .... major attitude, was not going to class, and there may have been some off campus issue(s).

Given the cost of a scholarship at SMU, need to get rid of those types of players............

Unbelievable. You're handed the opportunity to get a free SMU diploma on a silver platter and just throw it away. I'm sure he'll regret this decision in the not-so-distant future...

Heard that "Huntsville U.", was looking for a Line Backer to play on the correctional team. Damien Neroes, has a nice ring to it. 8)

I don't disagree with the sentiment of this post, just one minor detail. There is nothing ‘free' about earning a degree while playing football on scholarship. Many continue to pay for that experience their entire lives.

Sometimes these young men are just not ready for college for whatever reason. They suddenly have freedoms not known to them before and some mess up. The ones that recognize it and try to improve upon it are given second, third and fourth chances and yes they earn their degree in many ways. The ones that think they can skate through college end up working at Jack in the Box unless they play for Oklahoma State.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

From limited reporting it appears this kid was not interested in the class room and was a very weak student. Every recuriting class is going to have a small number of kids who just want to play football and a degree is not of any big cancern. The degree becomes a concern years later when they finally grow up and realize the mistakes they have made.

You are right, it happens every year to every program. But with this young man ... it was a lot more then just class time.
