2015 divisions for "The American"
Any thoughts? I feel as if this makes the most sense.
East- UCF, USF, Temple, UConn, East Carolina, Navy
West- SMU, Houston, Memphis, Tulane, Tulsa, Cincinnati
Unrelated: Tulane was such a [deleted] addition. I wish we could've gotten BYU instead.

I keep reading that Navy will actually prefer being in the West-they recruit Texas more than any other state. I doubt Cinncinati wants to be in the West.. I'm pretty sure the Florida schools will remain with the Eastern schools because those schools recruit Florida big-time for speed athletes

Perhaps it will be like the SEC where each team has a permanent crossover, and ours could be Navy- guaranteeing them a game in TX at least every other yearStallion wrote:I keep reading that Navy will actually prefer being in the West-they recruit Texas more than any other state. Having Navy in our division would be great or at least as a permanent cross-over. Going to Annapolis for a game is great fun.East Coast Mustang wrote:Perhaps it will be like the SEC where each team has a permanent crossover, and ours could be Navy- guaranteeing them a game in TX at least every other yearStallion wrote:I keep reading that Navy will actually prefer being in the West-they recruit Texas more than any other state. SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

There really is no sound reason we could not dominate the Western division of the new AAC; our bad if we don't rise to the top and stay there...

Who is going to be team 14? Or 12 if UConn and Cinci get poached?

JJ would probably "pencil in" the Navy game as a loss every year.....why waste a week getting ready for that offense unless another AAC team runs it?Stallion wrote:I keep reading that Navy will actually prefer being in the West-they recruit Texas more than any other state. Re: 2015 divisions for "The American"
I agree that Cincinnati wants to be in Eastern Group or Division for recruiting, media and time zones. Navy would be open to the Western group.
Assuming a east/west spilt, there doesn't appear to be any logical pairings for permanent cross-overs games. It may not be needed. Is there an argument for such a game, since there is no history between the western and eastern half? SMU has a named trophy with Navy.

I counted ECU twice. Nevermind.NY Pony wrote:Who is going to be team 14? Or 12 if UConn and Cinci get poached?

Without permanent crossovers, I'm pretty sure a game in Texas and a game Florida could be worked out for every team, every other year.

Navy in the West makes sense. It's CUSA West + Memphis + Navy.
The East is essentially a combo of the old BE and CUSA East.
UConn, Temple, ECU, UCF, USF, Cincy.
It limits how often teams travel farther distances and makes a lot of sense.

On another note, what's going to be the accepted abbreviation of the American Athletic Conference? Will teams be vying for the "AAC championship"? The "American championship"?

Without UCONN or Cinci this looks just like Conference-USA with slightly better bball. And I think UCONN and Cinci are out by 2015 or 2016 with any contractual issues.
Here's to us being in another conference by 2015
I do see a re-motivated JJ and Larry Brown crushing recruiting.

Re: 2015 divisions for "The American"
I think it's been well established that we didn't really "move up" the conference ladder, at least as far as football is concerned. But it's certainly better than being left in the old CUSA, which is what would've happened pre-June/OrsiniJunior wrote:wait, is this the current CUSA division or our AAC division?
