GARRETT GILBERT: New targets

As he prepares for his second season as SMU's quarterback, Garrett Gilbert is working with a quartet of new receivers. Until he was slowed by a hernia, cornerback Kenneth Acker was trying out at receiver. Former cornerback Rodney Hubert has been moved to offense, and freshmen Deion Sanders and Nate Halverson enrolled early and are getting a crash course in the offense. PonyFans.com caught up with Gilbert to get a thumbnail sketch of each of the new receiver candidates.

Cool story. It's one thing to hear standard coach-speak, but Gilbert is the one throwing to them, and it's good to see he likes what he has seen so far. I was worried that Sanders might have been signed just because of his name or something, but I'm looking forward to seeing him play.

It's good to read the comments about Hubert. Gilbert seems to think there's potential there, and PP has offered a few notes about him making plays in practice. Hope he turns out to be successful at his new position.
