AUSTIN KENT: Getting in the arms race

Post by PonyPride »

One of the new faces at SMU's spring workouts slid under the radar during recruiting - impressive, considering quarterback Austin Kent stands 6 feet, 6 inches tall. The transfer from Laney College - the same JC that produced former SMU DB Sterling Moore - eschewed two scholarship offers to walk on at SMU, and now finds himself competing for a chance at the Ponies' crowded quarterback position. Kent visited with PonyFans.com to discuss how he ended up at SMU, his playing style and his view of his immediate future with the Mustangs.

Perfect walk-on candidate.
Big kid who sounds intelligent and sounds like the desire and willingness to work are there.
If he has a strong arm, at the very worst, he's an excellent practice QB. At best, he turns out to be a player, and he costs the team no scholarship dollars.
