8/30 vs Tech - It Happens Here!
This is the moment!
A National Platform on ESPN on Friday night. Let that sink in ....
What are you willing to do with this opportunity?!?
If you want to ensure that our team plays "above themselves", FILL the stadium with 30-35,000 Mustang fans! Show the country "Mustang Mania". This is when college football is at it's best - a packed house and electricity in the air!
We need a HUGE effort to buy tickets. I will be bringing at least a dozen fresh fans. This will be a huge missed opportunity if we let Tech buy a bunch of tickets. A little effort by everyone and we truly will feel "home field advantage"! When the tickets go on sale, we need to gobble them up. This is where it happens!
Buy extra tickets and bring family, friends or neighbors, even if they sit in a different section than you. This can be our "moment". Imagine what that win would do for fan support, marketing and respect. It could get contagious.
**Bring in the food trucks - add more fireworks - do a flyover - add to the festivities.
**Maybe someone could sponsor giving out "Mustang Towels" at the game.
**Maybe a fund could be started to buy a big block of tickets, which could be offered to the Police Dept. and Fire Dept., on the condition that whoever comes, promises to be Mustang Maniacs. Maybe the school could promotionally give away tickets for the same cause, to ensure that Tech fans don't get them (consider it marketing dollars).
**Add a music stage, beer and food sales just outside the stadium (Plaza?). Book a band, that students want to hear, to play for about 30-45 minutes, then shut it all down 15 minutes before the game to encourage entry.
**Do we sell cheap tickets designated for the south endzone "hill"? If not, create and sell them cheap or donate them. We need the crowd. Money can be made on concessions.
**Maybe Thad could make an even more powerful and uplifting intro film for the team to enter the field? Something that causes such a roar that anyone not in the stadium, will regret not being there for.
**Band director and sound system operator - communicate with the student body about songs they want (for dance or cheers) Students, show up! It's national TV!
**Maybe student ID's could be scanned at the gate and students would be awarded bonus points to be applied academically. I'm not normally for mixing athletics and academics, but just once to get them to THIS game. Bet that the excitement and victory will keep them coming back.
**Full page ad in sports section of newspaper - "You're Invited - SMU vs Texas Tech - ESPN Nationally Televised - Tailgate on the Boulevard, voted one of the best ... - Free Drinks with Game Ticket at the Corral - Live Music - If you've never been, now's your chance - Tickets start at $20?" (whatever general admission is or offer at that for limited time to Dallas residents only)
We can win. We have a better chance of winning if WE fill the house.
We all have a chance to be a part of making this a turning point. Participate and pass on to those that can implement new ideas.
And sure .... it would be easy to be critical or ignore. So I dare you to be an optimist. SMU puts out some of the brightest. Surely this challenge can be accomplished.

SO this! ^
What's the marketing dept doing to get people out NOW before the summer starts?!? This team is BEATABLE (definitely before KK took over, hopefully still now). We CAN do this!

I don't think SMU does any of the above. Because it's Tech and KKs first game we will have 30k+. Marketing $ probably better spent on games where that's not already the case.

Friday night, 3 day weekend, end of summer, probably opening of dove season and televised. Doubt we get more than the normal, or even less, depending on local area Tech fan support.

Re: 8/30 vs Tech - It Happens Here!
This game needs to trump all of the above. The SMU/Tech game should become the destination-of-choice. Friday night, PERFECT. 3-day weekend, PERFECT (still got Sat-Sun-Mon to do all of that "important" stuff). Dove season, PERFECT (dove season lasts more than 1 day - and do we really have THAT many dove hunters? - and there will be enough for everyone). Televised, PERFECT. (Don't pass on the opportunity to help in the effort to showcase your team and your school - and why sit on your ars when you can see it in person?).mrydel wrote:Friday night, 3 day weekend, end of summer, probably opening of dove season and televised. Help with reasons to go, not to avoid going. We can at least try to change the culture. This is a major opportunity.

This game better be a sellout. Absolutely no excuses. The home opener against a Big 12 opponent with a large alumni base in the DFW area. A former SWC rival to boot. We need this game to be like the TCU game a few years ago at Ford where we had a great crowd and terrific atmosphere. It won't be 110 degrees at kickoff since its at 7PM so really.....no excuses.
Back off Warchild seriously.

The Corral was the single best idea around the SMU gameday experience since I've been associated with the university. I can't tell you how many people I met that loved it. It gives the folks who don't know anyone on The Boulevard a place to feel like they're a part of the action. Mega kudos to whoever thought of that idea.
Back off Warchild seriously.

game will be packed as is thanks to the tech fans.
Derail the Frogs!
Re: 8/30 vs Tech - It Happens Here!
This is what I would expect as well...why push this game when there are other much less desirable opponents later in the season. Tech fans will overrun the stadium for Kingsbury. Will they try and charge the same prices as at the A&M game last year?
