Big Ten ADs eye stronger FB schedules
"To that end, the Big Ten will begin playing nine conference games in 2016. Most schools, if not all, will stop scheduling FCS foes. And Commissioner Jim Delany is pushing for more matchups like Wisconsin-Alabama - which will open the 2015 season at Cowboys Stadium - and fewer like Arkansas State-Nebraska."
What are the implications, especially for the MWC and American Athletic Conference (AAC). Are these two conferences the beneficaries as the strongest OCC opponents for the Five Power Conferences? Will our OCC schedules continue to be a high risk, high reward possibility for national media attention?
It appears that if we or any AAC teams wants to be elevated virtually or to a Big Five status, you have to seek and beat big conference teams, much as Boise State and TCU did.

probably one of the greatest things ever done by the most boring conference in America. I hope it puts pressure on all conferences and their legions of fans who get off on beating WhatsaMatterU and North Dakota St. Tech to stop being such [deleted] in scheduling. Now on to Basketball scheduling. Its not being reported but I think these networks are quietly putting the screws to these conferences that they don't get paid billions to schedule Punching Bag U. And Fans should get just as pissed at schools charging $100 a ticket and $30 for Parking and $1,000s for Boulevard passes to schedule Southern Pay Check St. for Homecoming just so the creepy fans* can pretend their alma mater is a quality bowl team without proving it.
*Defined as any one who actually can say with a straight face that SMU should drop 100 year rival Baylor at Home to play a school like North Dakota St. Creepy

Amen. Montana State replacing Baylor to get a W is , not worthy of our aspirations. If Baylor is projected as an L, then we have bigger problems. Simply put, we need to be relevant at the risk of a challenging record in the short term.Stallion wrote:probably one of the greatest things ever done by the most boring conference in America. Agree but perhaps there was no one else to pick on such short notice but Montana State? Just asking.
BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!
For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.

Why pencil in losses when you can put a question mark for an FCS team?Water Pony wrote:Amen. Montana State replacing Baylor to get a W is , not worthy of our aspirations. My problem was not the picking up Montana state, it was the dropping Baylor. No pass even if Montana state was the only team available on short notice.NavyCrimson wrote:Agree but perhaps there was no one else to pick on such short notice but Montana State? Just asking.

Re: Big Ten ADs eye stronger FB schedules
beyond playing 9 Big 10 games, the question is: what will their non-conference schedules look like? I can understand that some "state level" political issues might force Big 10 schools to play some MAC schools, but they do need to drop the FCS teams from their schedules and need to play more non-conference games against SEC, ACC, Big XII and PAC 12 schools
as a small private school, this trend could create a major problem for us scheduling wise. We really need to make an effort to hang onto those series with TCU & Baylor

They still haven't lived down Appalachian State beating Michigan and William & Mary taking Indiana to OT.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna
