Very impressive young man!
Re: PonyFans.com VIDEO: Meet OL Jerry Saena
Sounds like a really good young man. Since it is cooler here in Texas than in his homeland that is a plus for SMU because Texas heat does not bother him. Plus he can play either offense or defense. I wish him the best.

He put on 30 pounds in a MONTH? And thinks he'll grow to 6'8" or 6'9"? This guy's going to be huge!
Alex is right. He's really impressive! Great interview.

Really great stuff. A couple of points stand out to me. That the team is like family is important.
I like that he repeatedly mentioned Big Ben Gottschalk. I liked Ben in hs. I am glad to see him become a leader. I think for all his faults, June can appeal to kids. He sold SMU to this kid, and Samoan kids are a tight knit lot. That he came to SMU because of June speaks volumes.

Seems like a good kid. He was smiling the entire time and had really thoughtful answers. Hopefully he can play!
Back off Warchild seriously.
Re: PonyFans.com VIDEO: Meet OL Jerry Saena
Getting another full year under his belt in a regimented work out program is going to huge for him. Remember at the signing day press conference June said Jerry had next level potential. Seems like he may be right if he develops this way for the next 4 to 5 years.

If he stays at 6'5" that would be fine. He is already NFL size and like he said that he is happy with what height God has blessed him with presently. As a 6'5' 290 pound freshman he is already huge.

I really like this kid's attitude! Jerry said he wants to make a name for himself. Well I say he's well on his way!
Kudos to JJ, and it's going to be fun watching Jerry for the next several years. Welcome to the Hilltop Jerry!

Is putting on 30 pounds in a month supposed to be a good thing? The big guys that come to SMU all LOSE 30 pounds and hit the weightroom before they even see the field. 30 pounds of fat don't help.

If he's eating good food and lifting a lot, it's possible that it could be good weight.
I'm really excited to see this guy develop over the next few years!

Re: PonyFans.com VIDEO: Meet OL Jerry Saena
The thing I liked most about that interview, other than a great attitude, was that he said he liked to HIT . . . about 2-3 times. LOVE that! Most important thing he needs to do is hit the weight room and get strong as an ox. Doesn't need to put on much more weight unless it's muscle and he keeps his agility, especially if he stays an OL.

In this particular case, I think the answer is 'yes'. Evidently, Mel has a tough time kicking Jerry out of the weight room at the end of the day. The reason everyone thinks Jerry will end up at 6-7 or 6-8 is that he has an enormous frame. At 270, you could almost use the term "lanky" to describe his current physique. He has a lot of room to grow.Stallion wrote:Is putting on 30 pounds in a month supposed to be a good thing?

Re: PonyFans.com VIDEO: Meet OL Jerry Saena
They said the same thing about Jordan Favreau but he was only 6'3" not 6'5." But Favreau never grew. Good that Jerry is already 6'5." Remeber that Thomas Ashcroft is 6'5". I thought Mel was just getting back to SMU for some reason. I guess I could be wrong. Stallion, he actually didn't look fat at 290 on the video interview. Looking forward to seeing this young man play when he is ready.Webmaster wrote:In this particular case, I think the answer is 'yes'. Re: PonyFans.com VIDEO: Meet OL Jerry Saena
forgot about this guy. JJ obviously sees potential for Jerry. If he develops anywhere close to the pace Margus Hunt did, maybe 4-5 years from now everyone will be talking about another June Jones "find"
