Here's how to properly read the quote:
That's coachspeak for "I'm hoping to win the game." It's not a prediction.Hopefully... we'll win by one.

Does this mean the team will wear road White's for the game?
Re: June on Tech: "We'll win by one..."
Yeah, reading it again, I think he's saying "I hope people tune in to see a good game, but we pull it out and win by one." Took me a minute.

It doesn't sound like Jones is treating this as a 'pre-season' type game. I sure hope he and the Ponies are ready to play hard and win this opening weekend, Friday night, national televised game.
Talk about a great way to start off in an AQ conference, a win against another AQ team and on national TV.
Hades, I’m getting excited!

The way I read it is he is hoping it is a close and entertaining game such that the outcome is not decided until the end with SMU winning.

Good to see we are adding lawn seats. Should be a good crowd. Hope we've got more Pony Fans than Red Raiders.

Knowing his style, again all I think he's saying is that you just need one point to win. That''s all we're asking for.mustangxc wrote:The way I read it is he is hoping it is a close and entertaining game such that the outcome is not decided until the end with SMU winning.

It just reads weird because it was part of a long statement Jones was making and the author just truncated it.

I do believe the coaching staff views this as an important game and have said so in some interviews.

Yes. He uses the "one point more than the opponent" line all the time.ponyboy wrote:Knowing his style, again all I think he's saying is that you just need one point to win. I sense a 27-23 game coming. Just not sure who wins
Re: June on Tech: "We'll win by one..."
I would sure take a one point win, but I would rather win by at least a touchdown.
Re: June on Tech: "We'll win by one..."
Yes, I think the one point thing ties in with the whole atmosphere being electric. Lot of people, National television, close game, setting the lawn on fire, etc.
Who started this damn Whiteout thing? Apparently we have to keep doing it now because it's turned into a "tradition." Here's a novel idea: let's do a "team-color-out." The SMU bookstore should at least have more than two or three non-TCU-game-related white SMU shirt options if we're going to do this every year. Went by yesterday and it's mostly red, royal, or navy. Call me a traditionalist, but the home team should wear solid jerseys and the fans should sport the opposite school color. White works for Penn State because it's one of their colors. Ford stadium is going to look like Spy vs. Spy playing chess.

I'm guessing the girls of SMU started the "white out" because their summer tans look better in white than red and blue!
