GameDay Improvements Announcement / Mustang Alley, etc
I know some of this has been mentioned already, however didn't know about new cell towers and other things listed. Glad things are improving
DALLAS (SMU) - With kickoff just days away, SMU Athletics is set to debut several changes aimed at improving the gameday experience on the Hilltop.
The Boulevard, chosen by Southern Living as one of the South's top tailgates, has added a new attraction in 2013 - Mustang Alley. Located on Binkley Avenue, east of Bishop Boulevard and west of Ownby, Mustang Alley is anchored by the Good Sport Tent & Patio, which provides sports fans a place to catch all the college football action before heading into Ford Stadium to see the Mustangs. The spot will have multiple TVs, food from the Nodding Donkey and beverages for thirsty tailgaters. Mustang Alley will also have vendor booths, a photo booth, a kids' area with inflatables and face painting as well as misting stations to cool patrons. Admission to Mustang Alley is free to the public and opens three hours prior to kickoff.
New cell phone towers have been installed on campus to increase phone and data connectivity, which is important as SMU focuses on social media interaction in game. SMU's Social Stadium allows fans to submit photos for the videoboard, compete in Instagram Scavenger Hunts and vote for Player of the Week. Fans should make sure to use the hashtag #PonyUp when posting to social media and their posts could end up on the scoreboard.
Also in the stadium, SMU has installed new TVs in the concourse and new premium seating, including the new 233-seat Hall of Champions Club and nine new suites. Pregame introductions are also improved with the addition of increased pyrotechnics and a new team intro video.
Food Trucks will again dot the south plaza, with six set to be open for the Texas Tech game. To help service the overflow crowd, additional portable concession stands will be open and hawkers will service the stands and lawn.
As part of its annual "WHITEOUT," SMU will hand out white rally towels to SMU students and the first 2,000 fans at Gate 3.

Less than 500 $20 GA passes remain for the game, so contact the SMU Ticket Office at 214-SMU-GAME (768-4263) before they are all gone.

This should go well....GiddyUp wrote:Pregame introductions are also improved with the addition of increased pyrotechnics and a new team intro video.

I like the increased cell coverage.
Maybe this will help keep butts in the seats when they can track other games on their phones, it was always annoying being cutoff at the game.

I hope they don't put up the choices for player of the week 2 minutes into the first quarter like they have in the past. "Okay folks, vote for someone you've seen for one series as the MVP of the game". Just seems dumb. Move it to the middle of the second quarter, announce the winner mid-way through the 4th and if you voted for that person you should receive a text back with some kind of prize (discount at the bookstore or concessions, something from the sponsor, whatever) that you pick up at the gate at the end of the game. Must be present to win.

How fans ever endured an entire football game without cell phones and the ability to "track other games" is indeed a miracle. They were never "cutoff at the game."TWALV33 wrote:I like the increased cell coverage.

Will we have the Corral in addition to the "Good Sport Tent" or is it all combined into the same thing?

too bad, last year's corral had free food and drinks while it sounds like the Good Sport Tent won't have anything for free.mrydel wrote:My understanding is that they are the same.
Also, I thought that needing a game ticket to get into the Corral was a good way to get people to buy tickets.

I think the food might still be free. Maybe not though.
