For the love of all that is holy...

Post by Prideful Pony »

...can we please find a FG kicker who won't miss from inside 30 yards. When my family turns to look me with surprised and sympathetic faces after a 23 yard miss, I shouldn't be saying, "That may be the most SMU thing about this entire game." You have a fan base that is hopeful, that is hanging in with the team, and then missing that FG is like looking each and every one in the eyes and calling them idiots.

I'll stop myself before I go on a rant, but I guarantee you we could drag someone in from the soccer team who can hit that with ease, although they might quit out of embarrassment when the crowd goes wild over hitting an extra point.

That's the thing with Hover - the easier the field goal, the more likely he is to miss

I told someone before his 51 yard kick, that he is likely to make this one, because of (no expectations). But, like we saw last year, he will miss the chip shot. That was a HUGE deflation to the team, when he blew that chip shot against Tech.

he's consistently had trouble with those short FGs from the right hash marks, but I didn't expect those 3 pts before half, so for me his night was a wash

How about us actually recruiting a field goal kicker for a change.

How about just actually recruiting top level BCS players for a change!
See LB
Watch LB recruit top level players
See LB win and crowds show up.
Easy lesson JJ.

Most teams don't have a lot of kickers on scholarship.

Ours is Loftus, who was a really highly regarded kicker coming out of high school. Was supposed to be all world, but hasn't panned out in the kicking department.

We need to worry about playmakers who can get us into the endzone first. Yeah, it would be great to have another Morestead, but we have bigger needs right now.

not so sure we do have bigger needs actually. what was our punt average? = less than 40 for sure. We are giving up big yardage on each series, and you could easily say that field position cost us the game Friday.

we hit the chip shot FG and hit just average punts and we probably win that game.

I had thought we lost by 18 points, but I guess I need to go back and check.

Our punt average was 44.7 yards and we had 4 drives start out past our own 30 compared to 2 for them. The love child of Sebastian Janikowski and Adam Vinatieri would not have won us that game when we could only score 2 TDs on 15 drives.

Went and found the stats....

Tech's average starting position: 25.9 yard line
SMU's average starting position: 25.7 yard line

Clearly our kicking game lost us the field position battle

That punt returner, number 17 I think, has to be the biggest [deleted] in all of CFB... Did he forget if the ball hits the end zone we get it to the 25 rather his crappy return to the 17
