As a fellow student and swimmer (we shared the downstair's Dining Hall in Lettermen's Hall) during his entire FB career at SMU, Jerry was and is a 'class act'. Having not grown up in Texas (Illinois and Florida), I didn't necessarily see his situation as unique at the time. However, I have a much greater appreciation in hindsight and have to conclude that I was a bit naïve to his circumstances and the strength of his person courage. I now have a greater appreciation of his unbelievable athletic skills. In the mid to late Sixties, the Southwest Conference was taken to school by his speed and quickness.

Happy Birthday, Jerry
