That stinks! I don't wish health woes on anyone.

Sad - but probably the best move for him.
Re: UH's Piland to quit football
Wasn't that him who took the hit last year during the blowout?
Re: UH's Piland to quit football
Yeah, he's had some issues since then so it's probably best for him to lay down his pads.

Sucks for the kid. Hope he is okay longterm.
Back off Warchild seriously.

Hate to see this for anyone on any team. Hope he recovers fully.

Never would wish injury to any of these young men. I hope he will be alright long term.

that's a shame; hope he can stay on with the program in some capacity and can get scholarship money if needed to finish his education

Isn't there some way the schools can switch the scholarships from athletic to some other category so the player who can no longer play but will retain his scholarship and the particular sport frees up a scholarship?

Yes. I'm sure UH will do that. All our old basketball players did when Larry had to clean house.lwjr wrote:Isn't there some way the schools can switch the scholarships from athletic to some other category so the player who can no longer play but will retain his scholarship and the particular sport frees up a scholarship?

Piland graduates in December anyway. Unless he's pursuing grad school or is becoming a GA, then I'm sure they have something they do with that.

Good luck in the future, Piland

Dang, one less to pick on but there was a kernel of truth in what I said about his glass jaw. Too bad he has to quit. Jokes on me though. The mnemonic device for my new license plates includes Cougar High.

I watched the PBS show tonight "League of Denial: The NFL's Concussion Crisis".
The show included Penn offensive lineman Owen Daniel Brearley Thomas (September 30, 1988 - April 26, 2010), who hanged himself, suffered CTE. Although he had never had been diagnosed with concussion, he had 20 spots in his frontal lobe, probably from sub concussive hits by just playing the game.
