My limited view of the game
I was in Austin today for a crew regatta and missed the fun. Here's my perspective on the game.
Checked in as I was leaving Austin and Siri told me it was 28-7 late in the 2Q. Crap, I thought.
As I passing Rudy's in Waco, wondering whether I needed a bathroom break, I asked Siri again. SMU's up by 17. I nearly drove off the road. I knew at that point that GG had to have done some amazing things offensively.
How did we give up 28 in the first half?

2 turnovers hurt but to honest Temple outplayed us. We were fortunate the Temple QB missed on a bomb when they were up 28-7 or they would have been up 35-7.

Traylon Shead turning the ball over every third time he touches the ball didn't help

Cause we are the best 1.5 quarter team against mediocre and below teams...Rebel10 wrote:2 turnovers hurt but to honest Temple outplayed us. We were fortunate the Temple QB missed on a bomb when they were up 28-7 or they would have been up 35-7.

Be rational. We won the game. Down 28-7, I think due to some more fumbles on the offensive side, and yet we won. That's remarkable. I'm asking how it happened.
Re: My limited view of the game
In all honesty it happened because the Temple defense was worse than the Memphis defense and much slower. Worst defense we have played all year. And I am being serious.ponyboy wrote:Be rational. Re: My limited view of the game
So freaking 500 plus yards of passing just happened because there was an empty defensive presence? Freaking 700 plus yards of offense, 7th EVER in NCAA history, happened because we just happened across a bad Temple defense? That cannot be it.
Let me offer an alternative explanation. Not even a culture change master like JJ was able to erase the deeply engrained loser culture here that won't even let a win be a win. Let a win be a win, folks. It's easy. We won. They lost.

Re: My limited view of the game
Ok like Rebel was saying, I think it had more to do with how awful temple was defensively, and part of being rational is to remove the emotion of winning when thinking about it. Which I am doing right here. I'm glad we didn't embarrassingly lose to temple however our defense was pretty sad to let two uncovered receivers take advantage of that. I think our offense did great in the second half but not that greatness was not the same level as how bad temple was. Just saying from my observation. Temple needed us to systematically kill ourselves to win. Which we did pretty good job for like 2Qs.ponyboy wrote:Be rational. We won the game. Re: My limited view of the game
Not trying to down JJ. I thought you wanted an objective answer. Seriously they were that bad and very slow. We could not have done that against Tech or TCU. I know you are pro JJ probably want to hear something else but you asked a question and I was not trying to bash Coach Jones. If we go for 700 yards for every game the rest of the year fine. But you can easily see why Temple has just won one game. They are very talented especially on defense. Again trying to be straight forward. You gave an explanation while you did not see the fame. If you already had your mind made up with the why ask the question?ponyboy wrote:So freaking 500 plus yards of passing just happened because there was an empty defensive presence?
