Hart/SID/anyone - what can us out of town fans do to help?
Watching on tv, our attendance looked awful. Hearing from those who actually went, it may have even been worse than it looked on tv.
If I lived in Dallas I'd like to think I'd attend every game. Maybe wishful thinking, but I'm a big fan and I believe I'd be there for every game I could attend. Living 1500 miles away, I feel pretty helpless. I travel down for one or 2 home games a year, go to bowls when they're not in Hawaii, and try to make away games if they're close to me (eg ECU).
What can us out of town die-hards do to help the situation? Is there anything? I'd buy tix and donate but honestly there is no demand for them.
But something needs to change because FCS teams get better attendance than we got today. I don't know how to do it- but there needs to be a culture change on the SMU campus with regard to students and athletics. Out students, save about 100, just don't give 2 shlts about sports. They can't be bothered to leave the blvd or get to a BB game or even stay past halftime. It's really sad. If they don't support BB this year in a new conference with great players in a renovated Moody, that whole "product on the field" argument won't hold water. We have a great product in BB - if u students dont show up, it's on you. Stop being "too cool" to attend or cheer. Put off the shopping. Put off the drinking at the frat house.

Ask the Allen Eagle Band to perform when opponent does not bring their band. Allen band has 900 give or take plus parents and friends should add 3,000

Band idea is excellent. I read recently that Rutgers gives away over 10k seats at home games. Seriously. Gives them away.

And, another possible solution we could redirect some scholarship funding toward our band from academic money and build it to 150/160 members who would be recruited locally so their parents and families could attend our games. 150 band people, 9 hot twirlers, (I know, I'm an SEC homer) and a drum major. Do it!
I'm not a band person, but we need this for a quality game atmosphere. Win/Win for everyone - make it happen Turner.

Why do people want to tarp the end zone. There are about 30 people that sit there. They can just move 50 feet to the left or right. It is not going to make a dent in the east and west side vacancy.

Alabama has 24 this year...
Texas Tech, Arkansas, Ole Miss, Georgia, Tennessee, and Florida all have a pack as well, maybe it's a Southern thing???

You can't trick up attendance on a consistent basis. Until we reach the students and alums good crowds will never happen. If people who supposedly love SMU don't care enough to show up why would a casual football fan with no affiliation to SMU? Especially when we are playing subpar football against subpar schools.

So people can look at our logo, instead of 30 guys looking bored. Shouldn't we be doing everything possible to make Ford look full, especially the East/TV-side?mrydel wrote:Why do people want to tarp the end zone. There are about 30 people that sit there.
