Jordan Tolbert = No Myles Turner?

Post by TyDerby »

That was my first thought when I saw he had officially transferred. We already have a lot of depth at forward, so my thought is Turner isn't coming here because there is no reason he would come here if there is that much depth at that position. I already thought we had very little chance of getting him, but this in my mind confirms he's not coming here. Do you guys agree? Regardless, we will be absolutely STACKED next year!! PONYUP

I still don't believe this for a second, but here you go:

4. If John Lucas winds up at Houston, expect Myles Turner to follow: And that would create major shock waves throughout college basketball. Lucas has emerged as a legitimate candidate for the opening at Houston and multiple sources have told CBSSports.com that the top remaining high school player in America will follow him if he indeed becomes the next head coach of the Cougars. Lucas has worked out Turner on a near daily basis over the past few months and is in his ear more than anyone during the recruiting process. Houston has struggled to be relevant nationally since the mid 1980s, but that would immediately change if it hired Lucas and he brought the 7-foot Turner along for the ride. With Turner, TaShawn Thomas, DanuelHouse, Danrad "Chicken" Knowles, and point guard L.J. Rose, the Cougars will immediately be able to compete with every team they'd have to play in the American.

Might be best option for Turner in regards to playing time. He'd never come out.

Still holding out hope that we get Myles Turner. Could be a big week for SMU. Adding Myles Turner would allow MK to play PF and would make SMU into not only one of the best backcourts (Mudiay, Nic) in college hoops, but also one of the best frontcourts (Turner, MK, Ben, Tolbert, Canen). Lining Myles Turner up next to MK along with either a 2 guard or 3 guard lineup would make SMU into a Natoinal Power. Regarding Jordan Tolbert, we added depth to our SF and PF position, all good news, but there is no guarantee that given our returning lineup there are no guarantees that Jordan even starts.

Let's be honest here, Myles Turner would be an upgrade at either PF or Center on our roster. Myles would get plenty of playing time if he comes to SMU. MK and Myles are very different players, each bringing different skillsets. Myles would be a force in the middle. Adding a kid who could block shots, get rebounds, score on the outside and inside would add dimensions to our team that do not currently exist (or do not exist on the same level).

I doubt it's positioning by Lucas, cause he's easily the best option for that program, with or w/o Turner

Before he got hurt, I felt Yanick would be pretty much what Myles is (similar skill set). However, Myles seems much more versatile. Slightly taller and can knock down the outside shot pulling the bigs out away from the basket. Neither one seems to like contact much though. Maybe Yanick is a little more comfortable with his back to the basket than Myles. But, Yanick is no where near what he was coming out of JUCO right now for whatever reason (confidence, injury, bball IQ, all of the above, who knows).
