Scout Story on (Not) Recruiting
Takeaway -- SMU is doing better, but still being outworked by others. Here's a key quote from the DeSoto coach:
Mathis compared the SMU staff to some of the other local programs.
"I can tell you North Texas lives here, TCU, Texas, even Texas Tech lives out here. But…" Mathis said as he raised his arms and looked around as though for the SMU staff. "They’re in the backyard."
The story, at least for now, is outside their firewall.

Re: Scout Story on (Not) Recruiting
Thanks Scout!
I requested that this be made a free content story so we can all be updated on where we have been in recruiting local schools and where we are now. DeSoto is perhaps the No. 1 school in Texas in producing Top Division 1A recruits. If its not-its close and its neighbor Cedar Hill probably is. Dallas SOC appears to have an unusual mother lode of top prospects this year with 5 Three Stars so far-3 of which have already committed to Notre Dame, Texas and OU. Seems like SOC is making a comeback in talent level-they had several last year too. When I was growing up SOC was the No. 1 hotspot with guys like Wayne Morris, Oscar Roan, Ricky Wesson, Rod Jones, Mike Livingston, Harvey Martin, Tim Collier, Michael Downs but with falling DISD attendance their profile had been lower. Dallas SOC has a rich SMU Heritage.

All they have to do is submit their tape and someone will process their request in 6-8 weeks.
Isn't that how all successful programs recruit?

Re: Scout Story on (Not) Recruiting
Uh, didn't the article say SMU is starting to have more of a presence recently?

Yes but still less of a presence than several other schools even ones that are hours away like Bevo, Oklahoma and Tech. Really no excuse whatsoever for that considering we're the closest FBS school to many talent-rich DFW cities.

But so do our recruiters.
