SMU-12 NCAA appearances, 1 Final Four 2014-15 & 2016-17 AAC Men's Basketball Champs
I have no problem with someone getting max $$$$. On the flip side, excessive greed is what's killing my feelings towards college football. . . If the P5 were to do a split, and took the basketball side of it. It would kill ALL of my feelings towards college athletics.
Never really thought that Calipari was a good "coach". Yes, no doubt, he and his staff can recruit. Every year, same story with Kentucky recruiting.
Reality is that Kentucky barely won enough games last season to get into the NCAA Tournament. That is not good coaching, especially with that roster. Imagine Larry Brown coaching Kentucky. LB is a "coach". Something tells me that LB would crush teams with Kentucky's roster. LB would make his players earn their playing time, coach his players up, and better prepare his players for the NBA. So grateful for having LB at SMU. Next year is going to be special!
Credit to Kentucky for getting hot and playing good enough in the NCAA Tournament to get to the final game, but we all know that anything can happen in the NCAA Tournament. See UCONN. And let's be honest here, it was not like Kentucky ran over every team in their wins in the NCAA Tournament. +1 vs Wisconsin, +3 vs Michigan, +5 vs. Louisville, +2 vs Wichita State, +7 Kansas State
Answer me this... 1) Does Calipari truly get the best out of his players every year? No. 2) Do Calipari's players show improvement during their short careers at Kentucky? No. See the Harrison Twins. 3) Imagine if Kentucky didn't make the NCAA Tournament last season, almost happened. Would Calipari have gotten a new 7 year contract? No. 4) So how exactly is Calipari deserving of a new coaching contract?

Should he have turned the money down to meet your level of satisfaction? Would you have turned the money down? They are probably trying to keep NBA teams from coming at him in the future like last year. UK has deep pockets. They offered and he accepted.

"Calipari's total compensation from the school will rise to $7 milllion, from the $6.5 million he will get for the 2014-15 campaign. Under Calipari's prior terms, he was scheduled to make $5.2 million in 2014-15."
Just a $500k bump...
