Larry Coker and UTSA
I've posted before about the UTSA program, how they had a plan they were working, and how they unfortunately seemed to have their act together more than we do, or at least we appear to at times. I also posted last year that they played Houston toe to toe into 4th quarter, actually had TD drop when down only 31 to 28, and then had 4 turnovers that made score out of hand and I was laughed at primarily by the Coog posters and but also many others. Well look at tonight.
UTSA goes on the road and makes it look easy against Houston, and they did so with a QB who is making his first start in college, not some 5th year Sr. Rookie QB against Houston who is opening a new stadium, no problem. They won 7 or 8 games last year, and their program has only been in existence for a few years. And until year ago the had no practice fields and practiced at NISD high school stadium, no fancy facilities or athletic dorms, etc.
Think about how far they have come in less time than June has been at SMU. This should be maddening to all of you like me who for 20 plus years have devoted money time and effort to this program. I'm sick of hearing we don't have an IPF, or we don't have big enough locker rooms, etc. and we can't do it. UTSA is proving it can be done if you have a good coach, a good plan and work it from top to bottom. I'm really sick of excuses, our school needs to get its act together or just roll only with basketball.

You speak the truth. Well said.
I simply don't believe we are serious about being a legitimate program...all of the evidence says we just want to field a team. At this rate we may not even do that very much longer.

Re: Larry Coker and UTSA
The announcers said that Larry Coker wanted to recruit Texas jard and they did. Now the benefits are starting to show.

This is something we saw coming..wait until UNT shows what they can do with good coaching.

That would be an embarrassing loss for SMU.

Re: Larry Coker and UTSA
Are they recruiting higher level kids, 4 and 5 stars, or are they simply coaching up their 2 stars? Either way they are an impressive bunch. I believe they cold give aggie and Baylor a good run.

This +1000, time for the June apologists to wake up and smell the mediocrity. Another Texas FBS team has passed us.

One that did not exist in 2010.
Cue Mexmustang blaming Hart and Turner for UTSA being better than us.

just a quick search on Rivals appears to be all 2* for 2013/2014, however I am not sure about transfers. I heard one announcer say a USC transfer I think.

They host Arizona next Thursday. Should be an interesting game. Arizona dominated UNLV tonight.

It's all 2 stars and a sprinkle of 3 stars for UTSA...SMU talent is much much better....just that UTSA seems to be better coached and motivated.
And no, they could not beat Aggy...maybe Baylor.

Thanks for the info guys. I don't live in Texas so I'm not too familiar with UTSA, but I do remember Coker from his glory days in Miami. He may not be fancy but that son of a gun can coach. Coker seems to be cut from the same cloth as O'leary, curmudgeon who can coach.

Turner has to take some blame. UTSA had university support not just a good coaching staff. We don't appear to have either.03Mustang wrote:One that did not exist in 2010.

Not sure how you can say we don't have admin support. Great facilities, high salaries, almost all the guys they want admitted get admitted...what support do you think he should get that isn't there?
