last night for the Magic. He played 35 minutes with 14 pts, 11 boards, and only 1 TO in a loss to the Suns, 87-84. Nice to see him make the most of his opportunity.

Rivers went to second-year guard Jeryl Sasser and a surprisingly effective zone defense.

Sasser, the skinny kid who came in shooting 23.4 percent from the floor, gave them 14 points, 11 rebounds and 35 minutes, all career highs. When the score was close in the fourth quarter, he was the one making big plays.

"I didn't know until Grant Hill told me I was starting after warm-ups," said Sasser, who made his first NBA start. "I just said, 'Let's do this thing.' "
