Markus Interview on CBS Radio

Key excerpt:
But everybody on our team can start on any team in the conference. So for us to have a bench to go to with me coming off the bench and Cannen and Ben and the players we have on the court - our starting five - we’re tough to beat. We’re a tough team. We are a band of brothers. We say ‘Family’ after every huddle. (Head coach Larry Brown) always preaches we got to be a family. We got to stick together through the rough times. That’s what we practice on. That’s what we do. We really take pride in being a family and all being brothers and being together. So when we get in tough tough, it’s nothing for us."

Fantastic to hear/read. Think it shines through when you see moments like the starters mobbing a walk-on after a meaningless dunk. The guys feel it.

Larry has prepared them well to battle adversity, and it has shown. The easy thing to do when the Ulric/Keith news breaks is to pack it in. They have come out inspired in the last few games and really played great basketball since the 1st half of the Temple game.

I hope this family guy is going to show he really means FAMILY by staying around next year and getting those papers turned in on time

Part of being a family is letting go. If he gets feedback that he should go, then he should go. The team will be stronger in the long run for players being able to do that and getting good advice and support when they test those waters, whether they go or not.

I agree with you up to a point, but not when the guy has a senior year ahead. And who's feedback are you referring to? Some handler? Some agent looking for a payday? What if he got other feedback that implied that he is better off staying around the only coach that won the NCAA championship and NBA championship as long as he can, that it might maximize his skills and command a higher salary over the long run in the NBA?

I actually worried a little about Cannen earlier in the year, not getting enough minutes and possibly being on LB's s-list. He is now contributing solid minutes, rebounds, and another long body. I like to think some leadership as well.
