Onu Tweeted announcement.
11 total offers including Rice, and the service academies. Guessing academics won't be a problem.
Seems to me we're getting a lot of recruits with service academy offers this year. Based on our recent experience with Navy and Army, this is a group we need to be out-recruiting.

From the interviews he seems like he is serious about academics and knows how a good school can help take you places beyond the football field.

Nice to see a kid being recruited by 3 service academies as it is an indication the kid actually has the academic standing to get into quality colleges. You must trust the staff and their evaluations before questioning whether or not we should be recruiting another perceived level of athlete. Thankfully the days of giving scholarships to 9 kids with out a single offer from any level of college are now in the rear view mirror.

This is where we are right now as a program. Quality athletic level kids with strong academics that enable us to out-recruit other similar schools based on our academic programs. Soon enough, we will not be competing with Annapolis and Colorado Springs for recruits, because we won't have to use the academic angle to recruit key players..we will be using our record and our reputation on te field. Well on our way to that point.

I actually hope we're always pulling top academic kids; I just hope we go from taking on Navy to taking on the likes of Stanford. SMU is just too small to not have every alumnus count -- after football. Don't get me wrong, the occasional five star jughead would be okay. We'll find him a job somewhere!!Puckhead48E wrote:This is where we are right now as a program. It would be interesting to see what the percentage of athletes who give money to SMU is compared to the percentage for all other alumni.CoxMustangFan wrote:I actually hope we're always pulling top academic kids; I just hope we go from taking on Navy to taking on the likes of Stanford. its waaaaaay lower. THey typically don't give back. Before you jump on me its certainly not every athlete, but as a rule its pretty low. International kids are even lower though.

I would be interested in where you get your numbers. I do not know an athlete personally who does not give.
