I can't remember which but one poll does not allow teams on probation to be voted into top 25. It may be the coaches which is why you don't see them listed. It's not because coaches don't think they're top 25 good lol. And if they do, there's more than a few chances to prove them REALLY wrong.

UNC is on probation, but don't have a post season ban currently. And likely will not since the issues being looked at are academic in nature, and open to the entire university. Different than members of the athletic staff helping a student athlete

For the uninitiated, this is the line of reasoning anyone expecting UNC to get punished should become familiar with. The fact that those athletic teams gained an unfair advantage because their athletes were using these courses to maintain eligibility, and the fact that leaders in the athletic department and individual programs knew of these classes and their intent and never reported them...well, those are just inconvenient occurrences completely separate from the athletic department as a whole. May be the first time someone can quote dodgeball lines from ESPN the Ocho in a real instance and have them sound reasonable.

Since 1974, teams on probation are not recognized in the poll of coaches while the AP permits their inclusion.

No need to get your panties in a wad, we aren't eligible for this one.

The leaders did a lot more than know things, they actively steered athletes into the classes. And the classes were wildly disproportionately populated by athletes. That a few non-athletes got in here and there is indeed the UNC defense, but the NOA did not buy it.

Yeah.

Those of us who were around in the 80s remember being top five in one football poll and unranked with zero votes in the other.

Whatever. There is going to be a lot of this crap this year. Best to just thicken up the skin and make the most of the ride...

Sorry guys I shouldn't have said anything; I should have known it wouldn't matter. Just check your "facts" before bashing UNC because they are completely wrong.

The REAL anger should be directed toward the NCAA

You've got to be kidding Heel fan! Understand you like UNC and don't want them to fall, but if you think you can convince any reasonable person that UNC athletics was not deeply entrenched in an academic scandal, then you are totally in the twilight zone. Sure they will probably skate because of the little legal escape strategy. But what UNC did was 1000 fold worse than SMU's transgression...or was the 1,800 fold...the amount of UNC athletes that "cheated" by taking bogus courses. Best not to say anything, if you are not going to be honest on the transgressions.
