My Opinion - Worst Coverage Team Post DP
I've been a season ticket holder since 1990 when we came back, most of you know my story. I give to certain projects and funding as well as Mustang Club. And I don't continually post like some just to post.
In my opinion, this is one of the worst special teams coverage units I have seen since we have come back. The other team shouldn't start on your side of the 50 almost everytime. I get the goofy punting style appears to have no hang time so on punt coverage that may be one issue, but if they are going to run it back past the 50 more often than not just kick in out of bounds on your kickoffs and take the penalty because they will have to go more yards.

Geez, tried to fix it for the spelling and grammar police. People wonder why some of us don't bother with this site anymore even though we may actually have information on some inside things to share.

I thought it was because trolls run rampant here.

I thought it was because of all the negativity directed at the team and players.

Kick off and punt coverage is very bad. But isn't any worse than some of those PB special teams. Frustrating but at least we don't run the swinging gate stuff anymore.
Still absolutely needs to be fixed though. And fix the penalties on the return team. We stuck inside the 20 either by a poor return or a penalty on a decent return. Very frustrating.

When I have seen practice, we only simulate punt and kick return. We never practice it for real. I think this is probably why it is so bad in the games - people aren't used to blocking or being blocked in the return game.
The other thing that happens in the return game is that once you give up a couple of plays, people start forgetting about assignments and worry about doing other people's job. I saw 1 get caught inside on one big return tonight where all he had to do was hold his lane and it would have bottled up. Instead, he was too eager and left his spot and big return up the sideline.

Special teams do stink right now, but that's not why you feel so aggrieved. You feel aggrieved because you have hope. First time in a long time...the buds of how are staying to flower. Enjoy it...enjoy the pain. It will make the pleasure of success that much more enjoyable soon.

kick & punt coverage teams obviously need a lot of work, but with better athletes and depth it will only get better. Surely it can't get much worse than what we are seeing this year

Special teams is where young very athletic players gets some experience. One doesn't practice kickoff and even punt returns at full contact speed. Too many injuries to mess cerated by practice that this team can't afford. That doesn't mean players can't practice their playing speed and discipline, though. The special teams have been poor.
Last night I saw a guy on or kick return team actually throw a block. First one I have seen this year. I don't know if our players don't care to execute their assignment or are just too poor an athlete to execute their assignment. i hope its effort and not talent.

Who is our Special Teams coach and what is his experience? Because we continually fail to keep our lanes and we always return up the middle, I am wondering what our players are being coached.
