Interesting DMN story on SMU recruiting

Post by PonyPride »

Takeaways from Bill Nichols' story on Chad Morris and recruiting:

1. "Hicks will be difficult to dislodge" (from starting role). Makes sense, given the progress he made during the 2016 season, familiarity with coaches, teammates, terminology, etc.
2. He cites 247sports and lists Tyler Page as an athlete, not quarterback.
3. Story discusses Hicks, Austin Upshaw, Matt Davis (awaiting appeal for sixth year), but not D.J. Gillins, who already has signed (although he is listed on list of recruits)

Tyler Page was recruited as an athlete-he has said that in interviews. Since he suffered an ankle break/ligaments tears in early December he maybe headed to a redshirt year especially if changing positions. Nothing stopping SMU from taking a look at him during redshirt year at QB. In fact, I'd be surprised if he wasn't the scout team QB before we play running teams like Navy. He was an effective but inconsistent passer in high school. But his running threat does open up possibilities in the passing game. Probably the same types of comments were written about Manziel before he got on the field too-who knows-but SMU can probably analyze hs best position during a redshirt year after he physically recovers
"With a quarter of a tank of gas, we can get everything we need right here in DFW." -SMU Head Coach Chad Morris
