What about Tom Penders?

Post by i10pony »

Is he coaching anywhere? It would definitely be fun basketball to watch ala the Mavs if this guy was runnin the program. He knows Texas, and he'll bring in some NYC guys.

Real Smart Gentlemen! Mike Jarvis and Tom Penders are two guys we need to stay away from. They have had bad press and scandels follow them during their careers. The last thing we need to do is bring them to the hilltop.

Hey, while we are at it, lets see what Nolan Richardson is doing. He would be great! He would even know how to recruit black players. Without him, I don't know how we will bring inner city kids to SMU to help us redeem our program. (I hope you smell the sarcasm.)

I agree on Penders, but by all accounts Jarvis ran a clean program at both G.W. and St. Johns. What did you hear and what is your source?
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

Isn't the real point that these guys haven't been able to do what we want for SMU even though they had better situations in which to accomplish those goals? There may be a reason that Penders' whereabouts do not immediately come to mind. Jarvis is probably a solid coach- much like Dement but coaching around NYC and it's area of influence gives him better press. Nolan is a very good coach. Does anyone think he would come to SMU if we offered him $1 million per year unless things (recruiting restrictions)change? Would you want the guy anyway with all of his crying and the baggage he brings? It would be a tough call BUT it is one we will never have to make because he ain't coming. I haven't seen one example of a coach that we could hire who will be better thn what we have. Maybe there are some small school coaches who would risk their careers with the unbalanced competition but they would be gambles. If someone could give me an example of a name we could hire and explain why that coach would be better, I'll listen. I don't want to jump from the frying pan to the fire though.

Jarvis has and always will be very political in his coaching jobs. Maybe he should have spent more time with players and basketball development.

How about Larry Eustachy or Matt Doherty. Both needed time away from the game and both can outcoach Dement on their worst day. SI has a story this week on Eustachy and he's getting back into coaching. For those who are quick to dismiss him read the article and realize that Mike Price and George O'Leary are back coaching.

Our basketball team is pathetic. Dement is done.
