O/U on Morris moving on this week???

Post by smuhype »

Wed?
Fri?
Sun?

Sad to see it happen but fully expect it this week.

He has been a walking resume/advertisement of accomplishments the last 3-4 weeks.

Smart Guy.

Proud of this team --- Much easier to stomach this year. Unlike last year we were competitive in every game and won all the games we should have --- no surprises.

Honestly, there aren't many jobs left where he'd either be high on the list or actually be interested in leaving for.

Tennessee probably isn't going to look at him. Mississippi state might but I'm torn on whether that's a job he'd see as a good move given the fact that, with a good year next year, he could be at the top of some bigger lists. Ole Miss decided to pass on anyone qualified for the job (despite at least 2 that I know of who would have been very good, if not spectacular hires being very interested) in favor of hiring the only coach ever hired in the SEC less qualified than Ed Orgeron was when Ole Miss hired him.

Easily put money on: no way this year. He might have a chance next year if he can show a win against either Michigan or TCU. Or just getting 8 or 9 win season next year.

We complain a lot about the defense (and rightly so) but I noticed last night that he's actually on basically the same trajectory right now that Willie Taggart was at USF.

Morris is 14-22 right now after 3 regular seasons. Taggart was 14-22 after 3 regular seasons at USF. Taggart, of course, is now the head coach at Oregon after winning 11 at USF in his 4th year. Get to 8-10 wins next year with an improved defense (bye, bye Van) and Morris would be one of the hottest names in the business.

Oh most definitely. Had we beaten UCF and Navy, I would put money he would be the next A&M coach. Hopefully next year we get 9 win season for the first time in forever and he can go get a dream job that he rightly deserves. He can get it but he needs a change to you and everyoneΓÇÖs point at DC.

He can get A job right now. If he stays one more year, gets to 10 wins including a win over a P5 school...then he can get THE job.

I don't see a major P5 taking a chance on an up and comer with a sub .500 record and not even making a conference championship or even top 3 in the division. He may have offers, but are they the one's he actually wants. Why take a baby step and then have the hassle of moving the family only to do it all again in three years (if successful) when he can stay here one more year and move to the top?

Who would be offering a job thatΓÇÖs worth mentioning? I canΓÇÖt think of any low level P5s. While SMU has issues, we are one of the highest salaries in the ΓÇ£G5ΓÇ¥. Also a wonderful place to live (Texas & especially DFW).

Chad almost left for that cesspool in Baylor, after just his 2nd season here. It won't take an Aggie level job to get him to leave. I think he is stuck here for one more season, but Chad is hiking his skirt... for anyone willing to take a peek.

Not exactly a news flash he wants to move up in the coaching ranks - they all do.

There isn't one of us that wouldn't take a huge promotion that also pays you 2.5X your current salary.

Not sure it is there for him this year except maybe Miss state. The problem with a Miss state gig is its almost impossible to be successful there given the company in that conference.

The Tech job would have been tempting. His dream job (Aggy) may slip away. I don't see who else would be a fit. Tennessee might reach out - they have really screwed the pooch on this process.

We might get luckier than that last play.....

Son was JV QB and has seen some varsity playoff action. Wonder if finishing at HP is important?

If Fisher takes the aTm job and Tennessee passes on HCCM. There is zero chance he gets another job as he will be stuck at SMU. And with all the major jobs op this year then unfortunately next he would be looking at not so good jobs like Tech, Vanderbilt, Rutgers and the like.

Not saying Arkansas cannot happen, but at this time they are adamant about a coach with Arkansas ties. It is rumored they will have an AD this week and that choice could be very telling. If they get a strong Arkansas ties AD they could come after Chad for recruiting Texas.

They seem to be waiting to see if Gus beats Georgia. If he does he is out since he would be almost force to stay at Auburn. If Georgia wins they go after him hard.
