Who is our Larry Brown hire?
Larry Legend fell into our laps and totally changed the culture of our program by his mere presence. Now Moody is packed and we contend for conference titles regularly. There was baggage and he didn't do it all perfectly but he certainly left the program better than he found it and willed it down to someone who could keep it going.
What would be the equivalent hire in football?

Re: Who is our Larry Brown hire?
Nothing comparable available in football but Todd Graham would probably be the best bet at setting us up for success in the future leaving us with a coordinator that can take over as soon as he jumps ship. At this point I don't even think he would get the opportunity to jump ship unless we really start winning. Just look at his coaching tree, he has an excellent track record at hiring assistants.

It was set up for Craddock but he's only about 32 right now-needed 2 more years of success to make it a realistic option

I really don't like that guy. From what I know in college coaching circles (not a lot), the guy is quite a jerk. Hope you get someone else.

False. Not that I am advocating this in any way but the equivalent would probably be Steve Spurrier. Championship track record and sure fire hall of famer like Brown. Out of coaching but thinks maybe he's got one more good 3-5 year run in him. Hires great Texas recruiters, names one of them HCIW and puts butts in the seats because he's Steve Spurrier.
...did I just wake up from a dream or is that the moonshine talking?!?!?!

By 'Larry Brown hire' I take you mean the outside-the-box hire that nobody sees coming, or perhaps is considered to old and and a weird fit for SMU, but makes it work.
By outside-the-box I'll go with Keeler at SHSU:

Dude has won an FCS championship at Delaware before being hired the last three seasons at SHSU.
By old guy, I'll say Les Miles.

So you are saying he could be our Patterson?

Mrydel, I know you are being facetious but I really believe he is similar to Patterson in both the good and the bad!

I'm recommending Art Briles and Dave Bliss.
Re: Who is our Larry Brown hire?
Sumlin is our best hire if he would ever stoop back to the AAC

Graham doesn't have Patterson's defensive acumen or talent evaluation/development abilities. He can put together a staff but can't get championship-level results out of it. Honestly, there aren't many similarities other than temperament.

Doesn't matter, everyone would go nuts for him to be back on the hilltop!!!!! Too funny.
So it seems the "realistic" names on this line of thinking would be Les Miles and Mack Brown. Anyone else we're not thinking of?

Is Spurrier still coaching or retired?
