Did We Ever Have an Interest in Tom Herman?

Post by AustinPerson »

Chad Morris didn't really do much for me in his final year, and I don't think that he's going to be all that great for Arky. I was always more interested in Sonny back when he was at La Tech, though.

Curious - Did SMU consider Tom Herman when they were considering Chad? Would Tom have gone to SMU over UH?

Curious what the filthy rich people on this board who have access know about all of this.

Yes, those were the two finalist. Herman always made a big deal about playing SMU and held a grudge against us for picking Morris over him.

And the word coming out now is that it was Herman who blew the whistle on the Ohio State assistant that may get Meyer fired. Herman supposedly did it in retaliation for a recruiting battle he had with the guy.

Rumor 2 is Stoops to replace Meyer.

He said Herman was not his source. I do not think he said who his sourceΓÇÖs source was.

Herman had a lot of good things already in place at Houston. He certainly wouldn't have done as well at SMU.

With that said, I think that Herman at UT is going to have a much brighter future than Chad at Arky.

I think that many here are underestimating how Morris will do at Arkansas. When here he had only the goal of getting to a P5 position. He worked with the obvious recruiting issues going against the big boys and just needed a winning record. Good for him, bad for us .Now he can recruit with the big boys and contend for much higher goals. I think you might be surprised as to what he can put together now that he is in the upper echelon of football. Time will tell.

I think we are lucky now with Dykes who seems to truly want to build up and succeed in Dallas.

I agree wholeheartedly with Mrydel. I think Chad will do well at Arkansas. He is already doing well in recruiting and the Arkansas press and fans love him so far.

Players are one thing. The defensive staff he put together at SMU was awful... is that going to be better?

The big concern I would have is the trainer. The difference with Kaz is huge. I don't think the training staff will allow them to compete physically in the SEC.

I agree that Chad will do well at Arkansas. Entirely different budget/pay scale (in terms of putting together a staff from year to year) and will not have the obvious recruiting disadvantage he had at SMU (playing at the G5 level and not having an opportunity to play for a national championship). I expect him to own Arkansas and do well in Texas and other states where he and/or his staff may have connections.
