Kind of sad to see this on E-bay......

Post by Special_Delivery_Smu_Fans »

It is always kind of sad to see someone sell their sports championship ring. I wonder who the ex-SMU player is that sold this SMU Championship Ring? The E-Bay auction for this SMU championship ring ends in about a week(Feb 22). Maybe the athletic department should buy it and display it in Moody.

Here is what the E-bay ad says:

Description

1993 SMU SWC CHAMPIONSHIP RING- NOT A SALEMAN'S SAMPLE, THE REAL DEAL. THIS REAL AND AMAZING RING WAS PRESENTED TO A FORMER PLAYER AT SMU. THE RING IS MADE BY BALFOUR AND IS 10K GOLD. ALL OF THE PROPER MARKINGS ARE ON THE INNER SHANK OF THE RING. THE RING IS A SIZE 11. RIGHT SIDE READS PLAYER NAME AND NUMBER AND A BASTKETBALL TRAVELING THROUGH A BASKETBALL HOOP. LEFT SIDE READS SMU MUSTANGS WITH THE MUSTANG . I WILL ALWAYS CONSIDER ANY OFFERS OR TRADES FOR OTHER CHAMPIONSHIP RINGS IN BASEBALL, FOOTBALL & BASKETBALL. EMAIL BRIAN AT [email protected] WITH ANY QUESTIONS. SHIPPING WILL BE OVERNIGHT INSURED AT BUYERS EXPENSE OF $24.95. DO NOT LET THIS ONE GET AWAY.

sounds to me like the player has already cashed out of it to a memorabilia collector. Maybe its just me, but there is something not quite right about owning somebody elses championship ring. I'm glad if the ex player got what he needed to out of it though.

I emailed the seller to find out who the player was. Said it was Nance, didn't give a number. Means nothing to me, that was before my time at SMU. Mean anything to anyone else?

Nance? Unless it was an obscure walkon, must be a nickname or maybe not the mens hoop team afterall. Guys I remember on the 93 Roster were Lewis, Mason, Wilson, Kinzer, Gatewood, Allen, Upshaw, Chambers, Holkan?. Van Beveren, Jesen. No Nance that I remember. Maybe a trainer or something?

The only other guys I can think of that you didn't mention were guys like Ballowe,Bates,Upshaw,Elenez and Dorner. I don't remember a player by the name of Nance. Could be a manager or a coach, possibly?
