Path to 9-10 Win Season
In looking at this year, it's not that shocking to think we could expect 9 to 10 win seasons. It's amazing to look at.
Just looking at this year:
- Beat UNT
- Replace Michigan with another cupcake
- Beat Cincy
That would put us at 8 wins right now. Win out and bowl and there's your 11 wins. Compete for AAC Championships and win your bowl. Do that consistently for 2-3 years. I think SonnyD can do it. You have to continue to beat the lower and mid tier AAC teams and pull an upset somewhere (Houston/Cincy/Memphis, one or two of those). Heck, if we get super lucky and beat TCU (it's happened) then that's a TWELFTH win.

Exactly. Then, after you are established winner and are looking at the national picture, up the game with better non-conference competition.
If this team had gone 3-1 non-conference and was sitting at 7-3 right now playing for the conference title, they get a lot more attention and higher attendance than a 5-5 team doing the same. A 5-5 team playing to win the division doesn't make us look good, it makes the conference look bad. And the neutral fan stays home.

Beating cupcakes doesn’t garner interest. Going 9-3 with tough OOC schedule garners interest. Had we beaten NTCC and Cincy and we would have had a good looking season.ojaipony wrote:In looking at this year, it's not that shocking to think we could expect 9 to 10 win seasons. Walk before you run. 9-3 versus cupcakes, then 9-3 with a tough OOC. Until you get the program up to a certain level where you can compete with the big boys, 9-3 is much better than 7-5.SMU_Alum11 wrote:Beating cupcakes doesn’t garner interest. There is a good chance we would beat TCU if we played them now.

sorry but a team that gives up 50 to uconn has no business in a 9-10 win conversation

Back off the ledge. We've done well in Sonny's first year. Let's go get a bowl.

Have to start by winning your home games to have any hope. Going to be a rough season any time you go 3-3 at home.

What gets a jump up is playing in the conference championship game. That is how we will get respect and not until then.
