Worst Home Schedule Ever?

Post by SmooBoy »

When NTSU is your marquee home game, you've got serious problems. How are season tix or mini plans being marketed? I'm ready for Fall, but yikes.

SEP 7 (SAT) 6 P.M. VS NORTH TEXAS
SEP 14 (SAT) 6 P.M. VS TEXAS STATE
OCT 5 (SAT) VS TULSA (FAMILY WEEKEND)
OCT 19 (SAT) VS TEMPLE
NOV 9 (SAT) VS ECU (HOMECOMING)
NOV 30 (SAT) VS TULANE

Mason Fine and UNT and their 7K traveling fans will be ready to turn Ford green, and roll the Ponies. Will be a YUGE challenge.

The problem on the schedule is Texas State.

You can't do anything about the conference schools and the games come where they come. Temple has a chance to be a top 25 team and ECU could right the ship this year so they could be interesting draws even if they don't bring a soul.

But with this home schedule it would have helped to have someone who would be a little more interesting or bring more fans/attention than just your expected easy win.

And yeah, this could be a schedule that gives us a 6-0 home record this year.

and every one of those can be a nail biter decided in the last minute. which means we have the schedule we should have at this point.

The 1987 and 1988 home schedules were worse.

But I will also throw out there the 2006 home slate which we went 5-1 against:

Sam Houston State
Arkansas State
Marshall
UAB
Houston
Tulsa

Really makes buying season tickets worth while particularly when I have to travel 1500 miles/expenses just to see a game. Add the likes of Abilene Christian to the future schedule and the AD wonders why I complain.

Might get 20k for the UNT opener but after that I would expect pretty sparse crowds. Just have to hope this team surprises everyone and has improved enough to win all of those games...and good weather on game days would certainly help. Might need to win every home game to become bowl eligible this season.

is there any other level of sport than college football (and bball) where weaker schedule and declining performance more accurately signals higher ticket and concession prices? or is it just smu?

4 of those are conference games. Can't do anything about those. Unt was June's great (???) idea. Texas state? Really?

There comes a time when we have to put on the "big boy pants" again and start playing a VARIETY of big-name programs yearly. Texas State should be a win, but Baylor/Okie Lite/Vandy/Colorado will provide greater fan interest and a great opportunity for a "surprise"....and it is a viable option. We are their "Texas State".

Once every few years playing Michigan doesn't cut it. Voting with empty seats is the result.
