As long as Hart is in charge we will do everything wrong so no. In fact if he wins one more game he'll land a 5 year extension. Of course, a real AD would have fired him at the end of last season.

My prediction is no, unless players are threatening to leave the program. Buyout is expensive and the economy is about to take a hit beyond just the stock market.

IMHO, the answer should be yes at this point. This year was the opportunity to get the ship righted. My expectations were top 4/5, with an NIT bid, building towards an NCAA bid next year. We had that in our grasp and let it slip away. Results matter. On the court, the defensive fundamentals still aren't there. As a coach, running a full, intense practice is really important for team improvement and to implement principles. So I was willing to give him a pass for the last two years and see what happened this year. But there are just too many quick threes, and poor defensive possessions. Not enough accountability. Not having an idea on how to properly use a big is an issue. Things just don't look right. That is a qualitative judgement, but I think we all see the same thing. If you watch Wichita State against Memphis, it looks like a good game with good players. When you watch an SMU game, it just isn't clean. We junk the game up. We don't play good defense (sometimes players miss shots which helps us, and we don't create a lot of turnovers) and on offense the half court game just doesn't look very good a lot of the time. We either have players who aren't good junking the game up to keep the game close (which would be on Jank for poor recruiting) or the players are talented but we aren't getting enough out of them (which would also be on Jank). It just isn't enjoyable basketball.

It is also clear that alumni, fans, and students aren't bought into Jank. The student support has vanished even though we only lost two games at home this year. That tells you the team isn't really passing the eye test for them. That is a big problem, and a reason on its own to let him go. If the student are bought into the coach and the program, they show up.

In my mind, I want to compare this to the Mavs, who this year also execute extremely poorly down the stretch and lose close game. They choke. And people put the blame on a young team instead of Carlisle. So you start to think that maybe Jank is getting a raw deal. But Ethan and Mike have enough game experience to do better in those situations if it is demanded of them. And with the talent on the team, a lot of these games should never have been as close as they were to begin with. Look at Memphis - they deal with youth and turn the ball over 20 times a game. But still finished ahead of us in conference and with the bubble analysts basically because they play defense. That is the difference, and reason why I think the coach should be removed.

He has a gaudy winning percentage as coach because of what he inherited and he has a winning record this year. They donΓÇÖt have the stones to do it and I donΓÇÖt think they have the will to do whatΓÇÖs necessary to truly compete with the big boys. They will spin his record in the off season and hope like heck season ticket sales donΓÇÖt plunge.
