Makes one wonder why they would allow conference tourneys with fans

So is the best that could happen to the NCAA? The NCAA makes most of its money form TV on March Madness. If ratings (cause nobody can attend) goes through the roof, the NCAA wins. And flushed with a windfall, I can guarantee the NCAA will increase enforcement to punish the non P5 schools. We are scrwed once again.

Well, doesn't apply to us. Just announced that no fans can attend games at Dickies Arena this week.

Only people old enough can remember Yale prof Irving Janis who in 1972 wrote a book about Group Think, and the incredibly stupid mistakes governments have made because of it. Did some awfully cruel experiments to illustrate it.

If 20,000 people in an arena canΓÇÖt attend and watch on TV instead, that doesnΓÇÖt have that much on an upward impact on TV ratings when you consider millions watch on TV already.

So are college teams or conferences insured from losses due to pandemics if games aren't played? Does ESPN take the hit or do to the conference/teams take the hit. SMU would lose several million but P5 schools would lose 40-80 Million a year which they've probably already spent. Anybody know what happens if these games aren't played. Maybe the NBA made the decision because they are insured by "Pandemic Coverage" that doesn't kick in if they go ahead and play games. World Health Organization declared a World Pandemic in last few days. Maybe related

At least they are still playing...for now. The NBA is "suspended."

You realize 15% of people over 80 and 8% of people in their 70s are dying from this. The death rate of the flu is 0.1% while the death rate of coronavirus is 1-3.5%. ThatΓÇÖs 10-35 times worse than the flu.

Schools closing, not having students come back from spring break, conference tournament cancelled or not playing spring sports - would be a very bad look for the NCAA to have the tournament.

Yeah it seems inevitable March Madness is going to get canceled, especially with all the other leagues in season shutting down.

You do realize that there are over 6 million people in the US over the age of 80. Are you saying that over 900,000 people are dying from this virus? That is considerably lower than the 1,573 confirmed cases of the virus as of 4:00 CDT today. Oh, and the mortality rate is 40 people so far. I do agree that most of those are probably older citizens though.

A lot of them were at the nursing home in Washington.

Not sure where the 40 cases came from but yesterday CBS News reported 30 deaths and 25 from the nursing home in Washington.
