I'm detecting a pattern with our last three coaches. If you remember back, June had SMU on an upward trajectory in the middle of his tenure. We had a few really good commitments from recruits through Klemm and it looked like he was going to take us higher, even though recruiting was not June's thing. Then the Arizona State flirtation happened. That week the recruits de-committed after Klemm calling and telling them they were all welcome at ASU. Then June drove the van off the cliff.
CM then came in and had us trending upward in year two. Things looked to be turning around with several commitments from recruits who could make a difference, namely QB Brewer who ultimately went to Baylor and played for years. CM then flirted with Baylor and the recruits de-committed. CM then drove the van off the cliff by going to Arkansas, except he forgot to get out before it ultimately crashed (for him personally).
SD clearly is leaving and going to tcu by noon on Sunday, after having what looked to be a very good recruiting class that could elevate the program over our other American conference rivals. Our four top recruits then de-commit most likely after a succession of a few phone calls.
I know what Yogi Buerra would say about the recurring theme.
PS. TT fired Matt Wells on 10/25 with rumors of SD going there. Then tcu terminated Fatterson on 10/31. I still believe the rumors of SD leaving had a profound impact on the team. We have lost 3 out of 4 since the rumors started flying, with 4 out of 5 coming tomorrow. SD could have done very well over the next few years before bolting for a real football program. I hope tcu enjoys our sloppy seconds as much as Arkansas did.

I hear you. And, see your point about how the ending for the last 3 coaches played out.
The good news for SMU football, is that the level of the program has improved each time.
June proved you could again have some modicum of success at SMU - after 27 years of Pony despair - and delivered winning seasons, bowl births, and bowl victories. Though he did leave us with a 1-11 season in his final season when he bailed.
Chad came in, when he was thought to be a star on the rise and proved SMU could attract a star-on-the-rise coach. Under Chad SMU again returned to a bowl and left because a P5 school came calling (whereas all other SMU coaches post death penalty were generally let go due to lack of success).
Sonny came in and brought us to new non-cheating heights, winning 10 games, starting 3 straight seasons with 5-0 starts or better (I get it, against a weak schedule), and for him a P5 school came calling as well.
Now looking forward to the next level of achievement for the program.

Yeah these guys go when their stock is high. Wait a year and you could be 3-8 and circling the drain.

Exactly...we hear the same stuff and we will again with Lashlee.
"oh he loves it here"
"his wife loves living in Highland Park"
"They have kids here in local schools they love"
"Chad's son is playing at HP, he wont leave"
"We have found our Patterson that will stay for many years"
But it's really not reality
Coaches are gypsies
How many Coaches has Texas had since Mack Brown left?
How many coaches has Texas Tech had since the Pirate left?
A few stay put....but the point is very few
We get all butt-hurt and but it's rarely pretty when a HC leaves for a better gig

I call BS on that as we were extremely successful in our early years and there is nothing anyone can say to taint those wins.
Re: Deja Vu (all over again)
How long will it take for a third ex SMU coach to join the high school ranks? (Chad,
June then Sonny?)
June then Sonny?)
