SMU Dominates On Both Ends In 75-42 Win At Tulsa

TULSA, Okla. (SMU) – The SMU women's basketball team allowed its fewest points of the season, defeating Tulsa 75-42 at the Reynolds Center in Tulsa, Okla., Saturday afternoon. It was the fewest points scored by Tulsa this season, with a previous low of 58 points against Temple.

Five players scored in double figures for the Mustangs (12-10, 6-4 American Athletic Conference), led by Jasmine Smith who finished with 18 points, eight rebounds and five assists. Sydne Wiggins and Kayla White each scored 13 points, while Keyanna Warthen posted her second career double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Reagan Bradley added 10 points, and freshman Zaria Rufus scored a season-high nine points.

The win is the 30th in the series for the Mustangs, but the first victory in Tulsa since Jan. 27, 2013. SMU had lost five straight road games in the series before the dominant performance Saturday.

After spotting Tulsa (14-8, 4-7 The American) an 8-0 lead to start the game, SMU came back to take a 14-12 lead after the first quarter. The Mustangs held Tulsa to just one field goal in the second quarter, going on a 21-2 run last the last 9:30 of the quarter. Tulsa was limited to just two free throws in two different trips to the line.

SMU scored 23 points in the second quarter and 25 in the third, while limiting the Golden Hurricane to just 23 points in the second half (12 & 13). SMU didn't allow more than 13 points in a single quarter and held Tulsa to five points in the second.

The Mustangs shot 46.8 percent for the game (29-of-62), while their lockdown defense kept Tulsa to a 22.0 shooting percentage (13-of-59). The Golden Hurricane entered the contest with five players averaging double digits scoring, but just two players scored more than six points for Tulsa. Temira Poindexter had 10 points with 10 rebounds, and Maya Mayberry also scored 10.

The Mustangs continue the road swing Wednesday at Tulane at 3 p.m. on ESPN+.

That is a very impressive road win. Tulsa won a ton of games in the non-conference schedule and was 94 in NET going into the game.

That second and third quarters were probably the best I have ever seen SMU play in a long time. That was amazing.
