No more P5. Just a P2. Then a new tier of PAC, ACC, and Big XII. If you're anyone in those conferences with a self-image as a big fish (Clemson especially), things just got really terrifying.

While fans everywhere are waiting with baited breath for the revival of the classic UCLA-Rutgers clashes, let's tap the brakes and see if this actually happens.
I really shouldn't drink and type.

If this happens, it's officially the death knell of the P5. (Really it was last summer, but Big 12 schools didn't want to believe it). A whole bunch of schools are about to join us as have-nots. I'm not sure many of them realize that yet.

With the Premier League for college football becoming P2 = BiG10 and SEC, the remaining P5 conferences, ACC, Big12 and Pac12, have to strengthen and package themselves as the next tier. The PAC12 has the most immediate challenge, but the ACC needs to reimagine themselves, as well, while the Big12 is recovering from last year's decision by OU and UT to depart.

So, should this 2nd group collaborate? Become more regional, where possible? Collectively coordinate their schedules and perhaps do some school swapping? Maybe the American can add its major city strategy to the mix.

In summary, our recent investments and progress may increase our attractiveness to this second group. Dallas is a fabulous travel hub and recruiting destination for everyone and SMU could be additive to ACC and Pac12, if Big 12 won't value us the same way.

the big12 will take the best remaining pac12 teams, leaving SMU out of big12 contention. our only hope is for ACC to bring us on board because we are academically strong and in Dallas, perhaps with Rice or Tulane as travel partner

Things that come to my mind immediately

1) do Washington & Oregon get B10 invites?

2) the gravy train finally ends for Wash St & Oregon St

3) UC-Berkeley & Stanford appear to be big losers…if B10 can become global, will ACC???

For SMU….

4) How does PAC sans USC / UCLA compare to B12…that has real implications for us

5) Rick Hart in a leadership role for us right now….I’m not happy

I thought somebody posted here that lil rickey's contract was up at the end of June. Is that incorrect? or did our leader of mediocrity extend his tenure?
Obviously with the shake up in schools will we move up? or fall further down as the AAC becomes less relevant than before? Times will be interesting.

I'm confident Ricky can secure our future with a bid to join the Southland Conference and our traditional rivals SFA and Lamar.

Hart bashing is getting old. With all the sea changes, we have to wait our turn; probably until the ACC, Big12, and Pac12 determine what their moves need to be.

Either this makes SMU attractive as a Dallas based university with upside for ACC or Pac12 or the two Super Conferences add more schools, e.g., Oregon, Washington, Clemson, Florida State, Miami, etc.
The second point creates additional delays on what the remaining three P5 conferences to have to consider.

Patience. :|

Agreed. My only question is if your second scenario occurs and the SEC/BIG10/BIG12 pick off more schools from ACC /PAC12 is it possible that a new conference forms with those remaining from the two and a few others like us/Memphis/boise?
