Pac12 Rumor
The Athletic is reporting rumors of the Pac-12 doing a deal with Amazon, which would pay out $40 million-plus per school. ThatΓÇÖs an eye-popping 1/3rd more than the Big-12, but nearly all the games would be streamed as opposed to broadcast.

"ItΓÇÖs hard to overstate how impressive SMU has been on the recruiting trail since the ACC announced the Mustangs would be joining the leagueΓÇ¥

150M+ Amazon Prime members in the US (greater than any other cable/satellite/streaming service), so audience scope isn't a question. If they sell a weekly game to CBS, it could work.

Thanks Ria
I wish there was more clarity to these statements:
ΓÇ£Big 12ΓÇÖs new ESPN/Fox deal reportedly worth $31.6 million a year per school starting in 2025ΓÇ¥
ΓÇ£Multiple people with knowledge of the discussions have told The Athletic they believe the dollar range Kliavkoff has been seeking ΓÇö believed to be north of $40 million per school ΓÇö is unrealistic.ΓÇ¥
ΓÇ£ESPN will be prepared to split the Pac-12ΓÇÖs media rights with Amazon, but will not offer the conference significantly more than it pays for the Big 12. That will lead the Pac-12 to sell almost its entire media package to AmazonΓÇ¥
I thought the goal of the PAC was to simply not negotiate a media deal significantly LESS than the B12. Why go exclusively with Amazon if the north of $40M is unrealistic?
At no point in this article did they say ΓÇÿnorth of $40M is unrealistic, but $40M per year is doableΓÇÖ.

$40 million plus per school, and then they will add CBS on top of it. If they decide to expand, we won't receive anywhere close to a full share, but whatever we see will be good enough.

Jason, whatΓÇÖs your source for $40M plus per school????

The under $40M number assumes that ESPN is driving the negotiation price to hold it similar to the Big 12.
That assumption is invalid. ESPN and Fox held negotiations with the Big 12 when the Big 12 wasn't a free agent. They controlled the numbers and held them down. The Big 12 had to do it because they needed to sign a deal before Big 12 members looked over at the Pac 12.
The Pac 12 is a free agent, the streaming services need content, and ESPN isn't the factor. In fact, NFL deal escaped Amazon, which was a huge surprise, which makes this deal even more important to Amazon, and they are battling against Apple.
I would be very surprised if the Pac 12 deal is not higher than what the Big 12 got. Including SMU balances out the Big 12 claims of the Dallas market with TCU, Tech, and Baylor. Utah and BYU split Salt Lake. So the Big 12 can claim Houston, and Kansas City? Pac 12 has Portland, Seattle, the Bay Area, Phoenix, and Denver. The population reach is substantially different.
We just need to hope that the Big 12 media deal forced all of the Big 12 schools to sign their GOR agreement so that we can get into the Pac 12.

Anyone expect a bidding wat now that Apple and Amazon both lost Sunday ticket to YouTube.

Any chance you mean "bidding war"?

Exactly.
Everyone also needs to keep in mind that Amazon spent over $1B for the LOR series. Any new movie or series of high quality takes $0.5B to make. Spending $0.5B to get a ton of content is a no-brainer from their side.

Thanks, JasonB, on the value and possibilities which may emerge with a new PAC-12 media deal, which could include Amazon and its streaming platform. Creativity with that and other options, such as CBS, could reveal a new way of valuing and delivering attractive, economical sports content such as absorbing the PAC12 Network.
With our desire to join a P5 Conference and the PAC12 being the most desirable for us, it is nice to imagine such an invitation in January once the PAC finalizes its media deal, which anticipates several additions, such SDSU and us. Maybe more now or in the future.

I am assuming the existing B12 members would never bolt as they would be losing out on the OU / UT buyout $$$ plus they would be on the hook for buyout fees themselves.
The real question IMO is has Houston officially committed to the B12
A PAC-14 with Dallas & Houston as Texas anchors would be attractive.
