Oral Roberts guard Max Abmas put his name in the transfer portal.
"Abmas was ninth in the country in scoring this season, averaging 21.9 points and shooting 37.3% from 3-point range. He also contributed 4.4 rebounds and 4 assists per game."
Of note: he might have just one year to play, but he is from Rockwall and played at Dallas Jesuit.
"A 6-foot guard from Rockwall, Texas, Abmas will be arguably the best available guard in the transfer portal. He won Summit League Player of the Year in 2021 and 2023, earning first-team all-conference honors in each of the past three seasons."

He will have much, much better options than the sinking S.S. Lanier

And many, many. But very, very few if any worst options.
A long tradition of existence.

Yes, give him a chance. This has gotten ridiculous.

We did, and he proceeded to set a program record for losses in a season (which included a loss at home to a Jackson State team that finished #304 in KenPom) and has not signed a player of out high school IN OVER A YEAR despite being hyped up as some big-time recruiter.
Jank was mailing it in and using us to pad his retirement account, but at least he very rarely but occasionally gave the impression he gave a damn.
Outside of getting boatraced on the court and doing nothing in recruiting, what's Lanier doing to sell the program in the community? Anything?
We literally downgraded in coaches from Jank, which was almost impossible. Good job, Rick!

ECM- totally agree with your comments. I really wonder why SMU refuses to go after quality, proven coaches instead of second level people.

- Cost - The best cost usually the most. Is SMU willing to spend what the top programs are paying?
Options - The best coaches (when available), have plenty of options. What puts SMU over other top destinations?

For what we're paying Lanier we could have a very legit head coach. That's what's most frustrating...we didn't go cheap. We're paying him handsomely for this half-assed effort.
