Starting a thread to generate thoughts - and frankly some positivity for 'Basketball' section of Ponyfans that has been lacking positivity - about what are some of the potential positive developments we could see in our SMU men's basketball program over the next 3 years.
I'll start.
- Land a bona fide point guard through the portal this off-season
- The nerve damage in Sam Williamson's shooting wrist continues to heal and he comes back in November closer to his previously lights-out shooting capability that made him a Mc D all american
- Xavier Foster parlays his first healthy off-season and the learning of the game he took in while effectively sitting last season into a legit starting center performance next season
- We land one or more top 100 players in the 2024 high school class
- Culture of program continues to build upon the apparent positive culture of this past year, when the team kept fighting within games when they were down and kept fighting throughout the year even when a post season became unlikely. And that culture and the associated vibe is palpable to recruits on visits.
- SMU is extended an offer into the PAC12 and accepts and moves conferences, with interest from recruits receiving a positive bump
Positive possible developments for SMU B-ball

It's all about the transfer portal, building team chemistry and getting the guys to play hard nosed defense

Good call on the defense. I really hope that does pick up. Would love that to become a calling card for us as Coach Lanier has said he wants. Would also help give us a consistent blueprint for winning games and give us an identity players can buy into.

I'm told the staff decided early on that they're eyeing high school players for next year, but that this year is about transfers only.

Free throws and rebounds. That's where you win or lose games.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna
