Castellanos: Bye, Beantown

Post by Dukie »

After being benched against Syracuse and named the backup for Saturday at SMU, Thomas Castellanos has announced his entry into the transfer portal. He's not even traveling to Dallas.

Players only love you when they're playing...would not be surprised to see Preston join him in the portal if their coaches have made it clear they prefer a different approach and skill set? Can't blame any former starter for not wanting to use up their eligibility riding the pine

So, then who is the backup for them this Saturday. We need to put the hurt on this new QB as an introduction to the ACC.

Wow that's huge for this game. Castellenos drove us nuts last year in Fenway. But his replacement is the greatest QB we've faced this year. At least lets treat him that way.

It's certainly appropriate to bring up PS in this thread, though I think it's way more appropriate right now to praise his response thus far, not just continuing to be a great teammate as is apparent in lots of ways on the sidelines, but also earning whatever stratospheric QB rating he gets for the Louisville game.

And if I get that song stuck in my head, I'm blaming you. Though there are worse songs...

Yes: Preston has been a stand up guy and great teammate, that's for sure. Castellanos has nothing to gain by the timing of his "announcement" other than coming off as a bitter guy who is putting himself ahead of the team...but I don't blame anyone for moving on to another school where they can be "the guy" if that's what they've been and want to continue in that role. It might just require moving down to a G5 program or even to the FCS level but there are plenty of quality schools where he/they can continue their education and earn a degree of value.

Castellanos is a 5'9" QB, and according to some BC fans he has lost some of his speed. That's two things going against him as he seeks employment with another P4 team.

If Castellanos is gone, the Eagles have one quarterback other than Grayson James who has thrown a pass this year:

Jacobe Robinson
Redshirt freshman
6-3, 223
Henderson, Texas

He made a brief appearance in BC's crushing of Duquesne, completing 2 of 3 passes for 23 yards, and rushing six times for 23 yards and a touchdown.

He has been hurt and has nearly 1000 yards rushing fewer than last year. Their best move is not to play him and I think he's done for the season with his injury anyway.

The message Castellanos wrote on Instagram:

"First I want to say thank you to the fans and entire BC community for the past two years I've been blessed enough to play here. I genuinely appreciate all the support you've given me and I will cherish the memories and relationships I've made.

"Thank you to the two groups of amazing coaches who have taught me invaluable lessons on and off the field. Thank you to the men who I've played alongside who have now become brothers. More than anything I've grown in faith and love and I appreciate every opportunity I've been given and worked towards during my time here. I've had some of the best experiences of my life in the Eagles Nest and I will truly cherish these memories forever. Unfortunately, all good things come to an end, even though it's sooner than I would like. I will trust in God and his plan for me on my journey.

Maybe he and the Nevada QB can just throw each other passes to stay sharp the rest of the year.

Quitting doesn't make sense.

He's a great runner, but he also is a 5'9" junior who doesn't throw well. How many other chances does he think he'll get?

Someone gave him some really bad advice.

Sure, but he can't play for them this season. Quitting on November 11 or so makes no sense and looks terrible from a maturity perspective.

Notice what PS did on the first fourth-down stop. He was the first one on the field high-fiving the D for their stop.
