Looking online with Orbitz.
30 miles away for only 1200 per person.
Do you think SMU will have a package deal - Question - would smu charter a plane or two?

Penn State is a tough place to travel to:
Good hotels all sold out and Motels are well over $1,000 a night there.

Re: Flying to Penn State
I think least expensive option is to fly into Baltimore and then find a place to stay in between. Interested to see if SMU is able to put together travel options on such short notice.

Time to get revenge for 1982!
Re: Flying to Penn State
There are tons of options other than State College airport (possible prop plane) if you're willing to drive 3hrs. IPP's list is great.
My ranking from personal experience:
SCE (State College)
IAD (Harrisburg)
PIT (Pittsburgh)
BWI (Baltimore) / PHL (Philly)
IAD (DC)

I would suggest staying about an hour away in Harrisburg.
IΓÇÖm planing to drive out (only just less than 3 hours from here). Just a warning that there literally is like 1 road in so need to get there super early to avoid massive traffic jam.

Re: Flying to Penn State
Weather conditions here will be a big factor. As long as it doesnΓÇÖt snow or rain, I hope we can cope with 30 degree weather.
Would have rather the game be in Austin but I do think UT is better than Perv St.
And on that, i know thereΓÇÖs a history of the 1982 championship. Not only that SMU didnΓÇÖt win the championship with one tie and Perv State got blown out in its loss. Leave that aside, it makes me sick that Sandusky was the DC of that team. If they had any integrity, they would vacate that season.
On a side note, looks like all the home teams are favored by at least a TD.

Looks like sunny and 35 degrees as of now for Saturday.

Add Reagan National (DCA) to you list. It's about 30 - 45 minutes net closer to Harrisburg compared to IAD and a much smaller airport so you get in and out quicker.
I live ten minutes from DCA but when I have to go to the Harrisburg area I drive.

Re: Flying to Penn State
Heard that almost all of the hotels are full because it is December Graduation for Penn State that weekend - and the hotels have been booked for months.
Graduation was supposed to be on the 21st, but has been moved to the 22nd due to the playoff game.
Wonder where they are going to find for the Team and travelling football contingent to stay - that is a lot of rooms - guessing it will not be in State College, PA.
