Re: Home & Home with LSU
So at least we get to make a trip to Baton Rouge and it will remain to be seen whether LSU attempts to buy us out of the trip to Dallas (especially if we can win in Louisiana). I'm still waiting to see whether OU tries to buy out of their trip to Dallas which has been an all too common practice for SEC teams fearing non-conference losses. If SMU can sustain the kind of success we've had these past 2 seasons, it shouldn't be an issue as losing to SMU early in the season could actually become a "good loss"

You beat me to it, but ... from SMUMustangs.com:

DALLAS (SMU) ΓÇô SMU, in conjunction with LSU, announced a home-and-home series set to take place for the 2028 and 2029 seasons on Monday.
The announcement marks the first time the two teams will face each other in nearly a century, with the last meeting coming in 1934. Overall, SMU holds a 1-0-1 lead in the all-time series.
The Tigers will host the Mustangs in Baton Rouge on Sept. 2, 2028, before making a return trip to Dallas on Sept. 1, 2029.
Game times and television to be determined at a later date.

I love this - well done! Do not sell out to Jerryworld. Make the Tigers play at Ford.

This is a huge step into the ranks of big-time football.

Re: Home & Home with LSU
This is a big deal for SMU. And props to LSU for continuing to schedule good competition outside the SEC (they had two with FSU, one with USC, currently on two with Clemson, etc)
The ACC and SEC have a lot of southern overlap, so it's always fun to get matchups along those lines.

This announcement reminds me of past posts on enhancing Ford Stadium with more capacity and/or modernization, such as eastside overhead cover, etc. Any rumors to this effect

Stadium won't ever grow, ensuring that demand is high and seats will be filled. This will then look good on TV.

I agree. We are "right sized" for both football and basketball now. Just look back to the Pony Express era and you can see that we've never drawn more than the current 35k and 7k, respectively without a lot of help from the visiting team. We might just have trouble doing home and home deals at Ford with programs that travel in large numbersmalonish wrote:Stadium won't ever grow, ensuring that demand is high and seats will be filled. Totally agree. I went to the Pitt game last year, and the stadium was basically full. Perfect atmosphere. I'm sure it looked great on TV.malonish wrote:Stadium won't ever grow, ensuring that demand is high and seats will be filled. This will then look good on TV.

Re: Home & Home with LSU
This is a perfect addition. If we lose, it likely isn't a killer because of LSU's stature among the nation's elite teams. But if we win, and win in a season in which we make a run at the ACC title, this is a fantastic résumé-building game.
