Football evolves but some things never change. SMU is so blessed to have two experienced and athletic TEs.

in '78 SMU had two experienced and proven TEs. In' 79 SMU had only one experienced TE. By the end of the 79 season SMU had two TE's with experience at starting position.

In 1980 only one TE had any TE experience. All others were new to the position or Freshmen.

Having such great depth at the very unique position of TE is a huge, and I mean huge, advantage.

The incredible problems two experienced TEs and one with wide receiver capacities presents to defenses is a huge advantage.

For the most part TEs are adjacent players. Needed but not playmakers. RJ is a playmaker beyond college level. He presents problems no defensee in college can match. Now add in another TE with exceptional abilities and defense can easily be overwhelmed and out matched.

If these two execel and complement each other then this offense will not need am NFL quality wide receiver. And defenses will have no answer.

This is a very rare moment where a usually adjacent position can be an extrodinarey advantage.

The depth of our TE room is pretty remarkable. Not only Matt and R.J. but I remember noticing Adam Moore during our last season in the AAC and thinking he could become a really special player for us in the future. With what Stone Eby brings and the coaches talking so highly about Tripp Riordan and even Miles Uter this really does appear to be one of the strong points of this team

Two?

Adam Moore is a stud who would be starting on many teams. Tripp Riordan is huge and I assume has potential. The coaches supposedly are really high on Devon Martin and Miles Uter. Stone Eby is an absolute roadgrader.

Anyone remember when we were in ... was it the WAC? ... and Boise State came to Dallas and rolled out formations with three and even four tight ends at once. The defense could do absolutely nothing about it. That's what I imagine when I look at this group.
