Men's soccer picked No. 5 in United Soccer Coaches Preseason Poll

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (United Soccer Coaches/SMU) – SMU Men's Soccer was ranked No. 5 in the United Soccer Coaches Preseason Top 25 following its NCAA Elite Eight appearance last season, as announced by the association on Thursday.

This is the highest the Mustangs have been ranked in the preseason poll since 2011, when they were also ranked fifth following their 2010 NCAA Elite Eight run.

The Mustangs are the highest-ranked Atlantic Coast Conference team picked in the 2025 preseason top 25, with seven other ACC teams included in the poll.

Four ACC teams were ranked within the Top 10. SMU led the charts at fifth, followed by Wake Forest at sixth, Pitt at seventh and Clemson as the No. 9 pick.

In its second ACC campaign, SMU will face four teams in the preseason top 25. The Mustangs will face No. 18 UMKC (Aug. 21), No. 9 Clemson (Sep. 13), No. 13 Stanford (Oct. 26) and No. 17 Virginia (Oct. 31).

SMU's ranked matchup against UMKC will be the 2025 season opener hosted at Washburne Stadium on August 21 at 7 p.m. CT.
