Kevin Jennings selected to Davey O’Brien watch list

FORT WORTH (SMU) – SMU quarterback Kevin Jennings has been named to the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award Preseason Watch List , the Davey O’Brien Foundation unveiled in a release on Thursday.

Compiled by a subset of the Davey O’Brien National Selection Committee, this year’s list was selected based on previous Division I career player performance as well as expectations heading into the 2025 college football season.

Jennings is one of 36 top returning college quarterbacks recognized on the list. Last season, he was named a semifinalist for the same award. The Atlantic Coast Conference boasts seven selections. Including this most recent recognition, the quarterback has nabbed five preseason accolades in 2025.

The 2024 season proved to be successful for the Texas native with SMU earning a 11-3 mark with a perfect 8-0 ACC regular-season record. Jennings led an elite offense, ranking in the top-25 nationally in first downs offense (12th, 319) and team passing efficiency (20th, 150.08). Individually, the team captain nationally placed 14th in yards per pass attempt (8.54), 18th in passing yards (3,245) and 20th in passing efficiency (150.9).

The list of semifinalists selected from the QB Class will be named on Wednesday, Nov. 12. The Foundation will announce the three finalists two weeks later (Tuesday, Nov. 25). The 2025 Davey O’Brien Award winner will be unveiled live on ESPN on Thursday, Dec. 11, duringΓÇ»The Home Depot College Football Awards.
